Formed out of the desire to make music that was real and honest and felt like something your parent would have listened to when they were kids, Chris Sligh (guitars & vocals), Mike Burkett (lead guitar), Cole Edmunson (bass & vocals) and Russ Chapman (drums & vocals) came together to bring to life The Exciting Mr. Brown.
Their music is full of energy, full of life and most of all full of groove. Bringing different musical influences to the table (everyone from the Goo Goo Dolls to Steve Vai to Yngwei Malmstein to Gov't Mule to Counting Crows), the band somehow arrived upon a sound that is a mixture of 70's rock, 80's funk and 90's alt-country all the while feeling like it is from today.
"Our music is an attempt to make something that feels timeless," says lead singer Chris Sligh. "Sure, we're making music that might sound like something from the 70's, but we just want to make music that is true to us...that's the music that will mean something 20 years from now."
As a band, Mr. Brown can thank the Rolling Stones and the Black Crowes, as well as bands like Matchbox20, Counting Crows and Gov't Mule, for their musical heritage. Making rock and roll that isn't dependent on what is popular or what is the current trend, The Exciting Mr. Brown has succeeded already in their local music scene, recently winning a large battle of the bands held in South Carolina.
The band is currently heading into the studio to record their debut album. They have over 15 songs written and will be demo-ing the songs over the next few weeks. Their debut album (as yet untitled) is being slated for sometime this summer, so keep an eye out. This is one band that you will want to hear more from, even after hearing them rock your face off for the hour their CD lasts.
