Rozzi Rayner - Lead singer and songwriter
Micky Toldi - Lead and Rythmn guitar and songwriter
Johnnie Christo - bass (later The Escape Club)
Nick Pyall - Lead and Rythmn guitar (formerly of The Doll)
Milan Zekavica - Drums (later The Escape Club)
Influences
Band influences were the Small Faces, Beatles, Dusty, through to Television, the Sex Pistols and The Pretenders.
First time we ever set foot on a real stage was at the Clapham 101 Club doing the death slot 7pm on an allnighter. We came off the stage 20 minutes later with a publishing deal with Clive Banks and a management contract with one Sue Carling. A short time later we signed to WEA for four singles and an album.
We toured extensively and most memorably with The Jam on the Going Underground Tour, and Squeeze, Pretenders, BA Robertson, Original Mirrors, Q Tips (Paul Young), King, Bad Manners, Dolly Mixtures etc.
We did a lot of television, Multicoloured Swap Shop, Fun Factory, STV Summer Special, Get It Together etc.
We played all over the UK from Bingley Hall to Dingwalls and The Bungalow Bar, Paisley to Blackpool in December LOL. Favourite gigs would have to be the residency we did at The Fulham Greyhound - great nights!!
We recorded the first single at Air Studios in London and the album Promises and Ties was recorded at Rockfield Studios with John (bang your bishop) David and the gorgeous Pat (winge) Moran.
We had our political record company problems but all in all A TRULY FUN TIME WAS HAD BY ALL.............
Luv ya
Rozzi xx
WOW I recently came across "Promises and Ties" and I must say I am blown away. Not a weak track to be found, total power pop ear candy through and through, and what great vocals. I think my favorite is the title track. Glad to find you here! -Frank
Hi Rozzi I was just stoppin' by to say hi! When are you going to get your music on I Tunes so I can finally own some of your music. Throwin' some love at ya. Yes I know that Texans can't spell. Tom
Hi Rozzi! I've touched reading and "virtual hearing" your birthday song. Thank you very much. Thanks a million. PS. Now, i'm listening Promises and Ties, hehehe
Big thanks for the add, what a great combination of Girl Group pop and punk/new wave guitars, it brings me right back to those days. All the best! Kindly drop by for a listen sometime, won..t you?
It's great to see the Expressos on myspace. I saw you guys many times at the Greyhound in Fulham - what memories :>)
How you didn't become big stars in beyond me - By Tonight is still one of my favourite songs of all time.
Great to hear that Rozzi and Mikki are writing together again. Any chance of getting Milan and Johnnie back from Australia for a grand reunion - well, everyone seems to be doing it nowadays!
Looking forward to hearing some more new stuff from you.
