The Eyes of Texas began in the summer of 1998 when its founding members David Ashford and Andy Blain were at the weekly steak cookout held every Sunday over at Andy's house. These weekly cookouts were a tradition. They always ended up out on the front porch picking guitars and singing whatever they had managed to learn the week before. One night a friend mentioned that he played drums and just so happened to have a set in his tool shed; thus bringing up the idea of what these picking sessions would sound like but with a drummer...and The Eyes of Texas were born.
Soon the band found their selves performing at local clubs, parties, dances, and weddings. In addition they performed at an annual event near Stephenville called "The Bash". On the same ticket were well known artists such as Larry Joe Taylor, Ed Burleson, and Mike Graham. The following year the band along with 45 other acts entered The True Value Hardware Country Showdown, a national competition where they tied for second place.
The Eyes of Texas have opened for various Nashville recording artists such Darrel Singletary, and Doug Supernaw. In the fall of 2000 while in San Angelo, Texas, they were the opening act for artists such as The Bellamy Brothers, Jerry Jeff Walker, and The Great Divide.
In June 2001 founding members Ashford & Blain decided to make some changes and rebuilt the band from scratch. The restructured Eyes of Texas were back, they returned sounding better than ever playing great TEXAS MUSIC and opening for Texas acts such as Pat Green, Cooder Graw, Kevin Fowler and Tommy Alverson.
KBCY 99.7 Music Director and on air personality J.B. Cloud, host of the incredibly popular "West Texas Saturday Night" program has said, "The Eyes of Texas are a hard working community minded band with a great Texas sound and they show great promise."
KEAN 105.3 On air personality Rudy"Fearless"Fernandez has said "The Eyes of Texas are a phenomenal band playing great Texas music and I'm surprised they haven't been picked up and signed by a major label because they are just that good".
The story of The Eyes of Texas is ongoing and has many chapters yet to be written. So stay tuned...You ain't heard nothin' yet.
