THE FADED: MORE VIBRANT THAN EVER!
Everyone familiar with the LA music scene knows The Faded. Over the last few years, this power-pop band has been a mainstay on the strip, making a name for themselves as alternative band of the year two of those years. Recently, though, the band has been concentrating their time in the studio, working on two new releases. That's bad news for me, since their live shows are great places to meet girls - they seem to flock to see these boys strut their stuff.
But that band is more than just a bunch of pretty boys with a few licks. These are true musicians, dedicated to their craft with a flair for the dramatic, whether it's the turn of a phrase in their heart-felt lyrics, or the firing of confettic canons at the climax of a tune. For the last few months, the band has been concentrating on producing a five song EP, "SCREAM,” as well as, get this... a single for inclusion on a compilation album titled, "High School Musical Goes Punk!" While the EP exhibits all of the best qualities of this band - technical excellence, incredible hooks, and music that just won't leave your head - their cover of "Breaking Free" from the original High School Musical movie deserves serious attention.
Disney's movie, all jokes aside, had some very nice, if diabetically inducingly sweet tunes. While I can't imagine what the rest of the compilation will sound like, The Faded's version rocks - hard. They've managed to cast the song in a whole new direction; from uber-sentiment to bold statement and an anthem for anyone who is just plain tired of dealing with other people's judgment. It's the same lyrics, same melody, totally different song. Search youtube.com and you'll find it.
Now, as for their upcoming EP, The Faded doesn't disappoint with any of the songs on SCREAM. A veritable roller-coaster of tunes, it almost seems that the band was challenged to express as many facets of the band as they could in a five-song format. From the title song, "Scream," clearly about the futility of arguments, to the boldly defiant, "This is My Life," to the almost love-song-esque tune, "Home With You," the band shows their many influences. Compared to their last release, "Three Lost Days," which was a strong release itself, the band plays with more power, skill, and passion than they've ever shown before. With the EP finally wrapped, the band plans to start playing the area again, which is good news for all us guys.
ROCK CITY NEWS
In the short time since forming, THE FADED, has risen from virtual unknowns to being hailed as The New Darlings of The Sunset Strip. As much pinups as strong musicians, its five members have truly made a name for themselves within the local music scene. Recently awarded the title of Alternative Band of the Year, The Faded have the art of the hook down so well that you cant help but see their faded view of life and love.
The Hollywood based group has fine-tuned their power-pop style in such unique ways that they have managed to completely separate themselves out from and above the rest. The five charismatic boys manage to play loud aggressive music with an accessible pop side that makes their songs relatable to virtually any age group. Add in their often over-the-top on-stage style (all posturing and play in fun), and you get a show that is both exciting and intriguing, as well as just great fun. The lyrics Gene presents by way of his distinctive voice are clever and candid. Gene is a moody soul whose voice suits the temperamental music that his band creates.
