Boston indie pop quintet This Blue Heaven are banking on the notion you'll share in their nostalgia for Kool-Aid, the Letter People, and Pong. Says guitarist Stu Dietz, "I like to think we pick up where early 80's music was headed before video actually did kill the radio star." Bridging the gap between finely crafted pop arrangements and reckless rock abandon, This Blue Heaven's music blends Brit pop, new wave, and Americana, evoking elements of U2, Talking Heads, Police, and The Who, as well as modern hipsters Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Phish, and Franz Ferdinand. While the dynamics and spontaneity of their live shows have been turning heads since their inception in mid-2004, it is the songs which are the real strength of the band--great songs that are catchy yet inventive, challenging yet accessible.
Boston's The Noise magazine predicts a bright future for the band, hailing their proud and beautiful melodies delivered with impeccable playing. Rosenthal marvels at the amount of praise volunteered by new fans at show after show: "One guy came up and told me that while our music was totally catchy, no one could accuse us of copying anyone, which I thought was about the best compliment a band could get." Having already performed at major Boston clubs such as the Paradise, Middle East, Harpers Ferry, Lizard Lounge, and Bill's Bar, as well as venturing into New York City and around New England, it seems there is nowhere for the band to go but up. Whether you're up for sitting down or getting down, This Blue Heaven will deliver.
