The Fake Fictions have been building a reputation for sharp hooks, good times and an insanely fun live show since forming in Chicago in April 2004, playing with bands such as the Like Young, Office, and Bunnygrunt at venues like the Empty Bottle, Schuba’s, Subterranean, the Hideout and the Beat Kitchen, as well as playing the CMJ Music Festival in New York City in 2006.
Nick and Sarah Ammerman (on guitar and bass respectively) write raw and catchy pop songs with alternating boy/girl vocals. Drummer Ben Bilow provides a pulsing backbeat that ties together the three-piece’s hook-laden melodies. With a sound that references new wave, garage rock, and pure pop, the Fake Fictions bring a fun and nostalgic sound; the perfect soundtrack for the last day of school or dry-humping in your parent’s basement.
The Fake Fictions have released their new LP, Raw Yang (fpr012), on Chicago’s Fresh Produce Records. Recorded at the Ice Factory, FP’s performance and art space, the record is the band’s most ambitious to date. Raw Yang builds on the success of the self-released Experimental Cheerleading EP, which Punk Planet praised as “unpretentious and thoroughly listenable.”
They are now in the process of recording KRAKATOA.
