Sounds Like
here's what some people have to say...
The Family Hootenanny compilation offers surprises and fun for the whole
family!
Detroit rockers show that their childish side isnt reserved for après-dusk!
Mastered by musician Dave Feeny at his award winning Tempermill
Studio, the family hootenanny compilation CD is Detroits magical
antidote to peppy childrens albums. The collection presents original rock,
pop and punk tunes as well as retooled traditional songs for young and old
alike.
The album displays local talent such as Dan John Miller of Blanche, Loretta
Lucas and the Larkspurs, The Go and one-man UK hit, Jawbone.
In addition to new songs by old talent, the album features the impressive
debut of Chloe Crawfordwho at age 5 upstages the adults and gives Sid
Vicious a run for his money. Chloe, lead singer for Bambi, belts A Peacock
Day with her two younger sisters on backup and dad (Jimmy Ohio of Misty and
The Ultimate Lovers) on guitar.
The CD marks the culmination of several years of occasional Family
Hootenanny concerts in which Detroit rockers let their hair down (or rather,
pulled it from their faces) to entertain the next generation of malcontents.
The coffee house concert series was started by musical types with kids who
wanted to introduce young-uns to kick ass live music.
Album highlights include the hilarious Playpen, by Miller in which he
sings, I wonder if my momma even loves me/ in the pen you dont get nothin
to eat, and Baby Duck, by The Come Ons, in which crooner Deanne Iovan
implores kids to avoid the dangerous streets laden with careening SUV
drivers on cell phones.
The album includes a bonus story, Chicken and Pig, and also features:
Billy West, Sunshine Doray, Salt Miners, American Mars, Mydols, The Candy
Band, Happy Tom, and The Katzenjammer Kids.
A gathering of kids and their grownups for the express purpose of singing, stomping, shouting, strumming, silliness and otherwise making music for the whole family. In this case the performers happen to be Detroit-area musicians of some renown letting their hair down for kids of all ages.
Past Hootenannies have included such sonic entertainment wonders as: Homemade country ditties about popsicle soup and being stuck in playpens, tear-inducing renditions of Muppets songs and punk jams about woodland creatures. Buy the cd @ cdbaby.com and www.bellyachecandyshoppe.com
I have been busy on tour with Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band and haven't had a chance to tell you about my new record! It's called "Bad Little Kitty" and it came out back in July. There are a few tracks to sample on my MySpace but you can also check it out on iTunes or on my own website, www. TaylorHollingsworth. com. Thank you for continuing to be a friend and I hope you like the new collection of songs.
Thanks for the add! I'm currently haunted by Dan Miller's Playpen and entranced by Loretta Lucas' Down by the Bay. I hope I can get my hands on a copy of this someday. :)
