REVIEWS FOR THE DEBUT ALBUM
(Released on Alcopop Records, spring '08)

" Each song has a strong melody and a clear identity, this is a band that I would expect to stumble upon on a rough trade compilation, in a geeky record shop or late at night on BBC 6 Music. A band that deserves to be heard, the kind to name drop if you want to seem like you know what you're talking about. They're a modern day Bluetones, a chilled out Maccabees and a young-again Supergrass all rolled together."
Repeat Fanzine

"What the Oxford four-piece do really well is balance indestructible bubblegum with the delicate and the vulnerable... So while ‘The Do Song’ is irresistible and ‘Ko Tao’ is a summery glam stomper... ‘Burn Like Stars’ and tales of past-love like ‘Reminds Me Of You’ are stunning... Centrepiece ‘Got It Made’ allows them to really flourish"
Die Shellsuit Die!!

"an album that promotes the dreamer in all and is folk-acoustic pop gold ready to be sieved into the collection of the daring and broad-minded... The acoustic influences are appropriately attached in wide-eyed childlike naivety and create a blend of powerfully emotive songs that walk the side of raucous masculinity and poignant delicacy."
gigwise.com

"...a fantastic album of semi-acoustic pop, that can make you dance on the tables downing sangria one minute, and slump weeping into your whisky the next. Highly recommended."
oxfordbands.com

"...an album of sweet, fun pop music that carefully manages to mix emotional shifts and understated wit... a treat"
Nightshift Magazine

" 'You are the Family Machine' offers 13 tracks of fine, nuanced, eternal-sounding pop... It’s also a textural delight, from crunchy vocals and slide guitar on the glorious opener ‘Ko Tao’ and shivery four-voice harmonies on ‘The Do Song’ to a swoon-worthy whistled melody on ‘Flowers by the Roadside’."
Emily Moore, The Line Of Best Fit

"...this is the album "Road To Rouen" should have been or the type of thing Teenage Fan Club should be achieving ... A triumph."
russellsreviews.co.uk

"When Family Machine are good (which is frequently), they can break your heart and make you laugh within the space of a couple of songs... this is a promising album from yet another exciting prospect from Oxford."
musicomh.com

"Whatever your flavour, there is something on there you'll like."

Reviews for the "Got It Made" EP on Alcopop Records (Big Scary Monsters)...

"A perfect nugget of sultry musical wonder"
Tim Bearder, bbc.co.uk.

"A unique force to be reckoned with... perfectly harmonious, summery indie"
Martin Guttridge-Hewitt, clickmusic.com

"Family Machine - WOW... Beautifully tender... Grandiose and magical... it won't be long before this family's extended family will be increasing in numbers"
Joby Mullens, 'The Fly'

"Excuberance that makes Supergrass sound like The Cure on a wet Tuesday night in Grimsby... Is there anyone left who doesn't revere Family Machine?"
Nightshift Magazine

"Acoustic guitars, bass, drums, percussion, multi-part harmonies and a sampler stuffed full of goodies... pro-community, post hedonist warped genius"
channel4.com

"Inventive indie pop"
Time Out
