Sounds Like
The Family Simpson at times sound as beautiful as lemonade soaking through a summer dress. At other times they sound like a kettle being thrown around in a fridge.
I used to be a singer / songwriter called Ian Simpson and I talked on the phone with a record label. Before that I was in a band called The Beaker People and we talked about talking to a record label (and world domination too, I recall). I am now The Family Simpson and I've realised no-one actually needs a record label, just listeners. Sorry if I was a bit slow.
Absolutely every single CD I have recorded as a solo artist is now online at http://www.last.fm/music/The+Family+Simpson. Please take the time to listen, comment and tag... if you can! And if you own a podcast and would like to feature any of the songs get in touch - I'll probably say yes.
Sometimes I load up draft tracks at soundclick.com...
"CAREER" HIGHLIGHTS
* supporting Anni Rossi and Rollin Hunt AND playing an art gallery at the same time.
* tracks from 'Happiness. Shared' regularly used as lullabies for 'other people's children'. Wow.
* met Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) comparing final of 2003 Daily Record 192 Acoustic Big Break (him, not me). Neither of us won.
* had telephone conversation with someone from a minor label as a result of 2004 BBC Sold on Song. I got excited and sent in some very wrong tracks.
* nearly supported Lloyd Cole. He didn't want any support.
* left-field recognition from Mark Sandall (BBC Radio 3: Mixing It) on Unknown Public compilation
* intermittant radio play on Scottish indie stations, US college/pirate stations and Swiss/American/Czech podcasts, although it's slowly improving. Grateful for all.
yo-de-doody er thats a bit odd, i thought i put all my songs up to download, anyway, if you e-mail me your address i can just post you a cd down. gis a shout then... tom
Well I moved out of my place once I left for Japan, and don't really intend to live there again. I think Glasgow is the logical place to live when I get back in about a month - before I left I was always commutting through for various musical projects. Plus it will be easier to promote the EP release there, and there's tonnes of musos from Aberdeen too - total sweet.
I dream of an island that I could fashion as part a Mekong Kurtz / Hackworth terror experience and part an escape from servitude. Who knows?
So are you still on a live gig hiatus? See any cool shows in Abs? I always wish I was back for some of the Interesting Music nights - Edinburgh gigs at times could be a little soulless.
You, Blastcap and I should catch up once I'm back if you fancy it in Ian?
i just read ur blog about ur lemon tree nightmare - i'm scared to try for a gig now! i'm sure most musicians get pissed around sometimes when gigging - i know have. anyway, i feel ur pain. hope to hear more tunage from ye soon. keith
home run sounds good (a bit musically odd in parts though, surely?). good clear sound production-wise and the strongest stuff i've heard from ya i think
