"I’ve seen the Fat Cats mature into a wonderfully enjoyable group. They seemed to have acquired a trade mark groove of their own expressed in both their original and cover tunes alike. Each member masters the stage with a distinct and enjoyable personality of their own, but play as a very cohesive group with a common vision while still allowing each member to shine and showcase their own skills and musical prowess! I have had the pleasure to experience several performances while at our lake home in Minnesota and enjoyed not only their shows, but also watching them grow as a group. Everyday at work I see most of the new platinum groups and artists that perform on The Morning Show, and The Fat Cats need not take a back seat to any of them."

Kevin enjoyed The Fat Cats performance so much at Chippiwa Valley Rock Fest. He plugged the group during REO’s performance. "We got our break at a Rock Fest just like this, and there’s a band called The Fat Cats down in beer garden 4 that absolutely ROCKED MY SOCKS OFF!!!!! You have to go see them and buy their Cd ’Rub’. These guys drip Rock-n-Roll!"

"I’ve never ever seen an act quite like The Cats. I caught their show while in Fargo ND for a show at the Fargo Dome. I enjoyed them very much. They are all very capable musicians and alot of fun to watch."

Gary Serum
Former Pitcher, MN Twins
Co- Owner, Serums Good Time Emporium, Anoka, MN

"Absolutely my favorite band. I love them, my customers love them, my employees love them. Give them a crowd and you will see that crowd respond to their music and show unlike what I’ve seen from many groups. They are incredible!"

Mike Asher

"The Fat Cats stole the show. They were fantastic. They did an exellent job and the crowds loved them. They were everything we were told and much more. We were very pleased with all their performances."

   About The Fat Cats
'The Fat Cats' formed in 1990. The Fat Cats original members are Wes Horn (bass and vocals) from Dilworth, Minnesota, and Steve Ingberg (Drummer) from Fargo, North Dakota. Wes and Steve were both former members of a popular Fargo based cover band called The Debonaires. From that point on 'The Fat Cats' have evolved into the band they are today.

The Fat Cats original guitar player Dave Bednars left shortly after the arrival of lead guitar player Richard Duffney. In 1992 the band recruited lead singer and front man Doug Newman (Big Bapa). Doug and Richard had been involved since high school and played together from 1972 until about 1985 in countless projects and groups.

Prior to 'The Fat Cats', Big Bapa had been touring with Fargo Moorhead based cover band ShyBoy. Both ShyBoy and the Debonaires were voted, in the Fargo Forum, Fargo/Moorhead's most popular and favorite bands 3 years running.

The Fat Cats added and subtracted a few members. In 1994 lead guitar, keyboardist, and vocalist Kerry Boyd was recruited. Kerry had also been a member of The Debonaires but at the time was living in Atlanta, Georgia. So the guys unloaded the band trailer and Steve drove down to Georgia to pick up Kerry and his newly wed wife Terrie and brought them back to Minnesota. A week later he was on stage with 'The Fat Cats' at an abate rally in northern Minnesota. Kerry turned out to be a natural fit for the group.

'The Fat Cats' have been fortunate to thrill their audiences throughout the midwest. The venues they performed at considered them a huge success and always brought them back when the band was available.

In 1995 the band turned its attention to writing and recording and feverishly completed their first project entitled 'The Fat Cats : RUB'.

In 2000 'The Fat Cats' had grown weary from gigging and going through over twelve different drummers with the absence of Steve due to injury. Honestly, in a few short years we went through more drummers than Spinal Tap. One of whom was Michael Shannon, inductee of Minnesota Music Hall of Fame, former drummer of the Uglys, Cadillac, The Fat Cats, among others, was tragically sticken with cancer. Michael, coincidently was mentor and taught Steve how to drum. (Personal Note): Mike insisted on putting the woodwork in our bathroom. He said, "That way, every morning, while you are taking care of business, you can think of me." And we do. Another talented drummer lost to tragedy was Todd Blatsky from Fargo, North Dakota. Todd was injured while at work and totally shattered his wrists. All of which happened while the Fat Cats were reaching an apogee in their musical careers.

After going through a succession of drummers, tired and discouraged, the band decided to slow down and quit touring so intensely. They informed their agents G.M.A., Mpls, R.A.M., St.Paul, and Headliner Talent, Int. and others they would no longer be touring. They quit maintaining their website and called it quits.

However, because of the news of 'The Fat Cats' and their rising reputation of being the ultimate party band as well as CD sales from their first project that had been circulating, the group had seemed to develop a following and a life of its own. Despite the fact that each member had an unlisted phone number, no agent representation, no website, and made absolutely no effort whatsoever to book engagements, venues, festivals, resorts, and clubs alike out of nowhere managed to resource a contact that somehow knew how to get ahold of one of the members to secure an engagement. This may be hard to believe but not only did this keep the guys performing even more than they wanted to, but most of their highest paying and highest profile engagements have come to them in this state of limbo.

With the return of Steve, their original drummer, 'The Fat Cats' have matured into a tight groove band. Each member has been said by music critics to master the stage with distinct personalities of their own, as a group with common vision while still allowing each member to showcase their skills and musical prowess with each of their instruments.

Today, 'The Fat Cats' are really starting to really shake up the music scene, getting air play, playing high profile gigs and sharing the stage with rock legends such as:

The Wall Flowers, The Goo Dolls, Stone Temple Pilots, Live, God Smack, Boston, Puddle of Mud, ZZ Topp,Switchoot,Match Box Twenty, REO Speedwagon, Poison, Three Days Grace, Marshal Tucker, Everclear, Little Feat, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Romantics, Tesla, Eric Burdon, Head East, The Spinners, Kentucky Head Hunters, The Georgia Satillites, Grand Funk Rail Road, Cracker, Jackyl, John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band, The Byrds, and many more.

Currently, 'The Fat Cats' are writing and recording their soon to be released cd yet to be intitled, and playing to national and international audiences, appearing annually at Dragfest, Terrace Bay, Ont.,Canada; repeat engagements in San Pedro, Belize, Central America, with offers to tour Europe and the U.K. and exclusive resorts in Mexico and community events thru out the states.

Today the guys all say they have a whole new fire motivating them and 'The Fat Cats' have shifted into high gear! Starting a whole new chapter in the lives of these veteran musicians as well as having access to a pool of other musicians and friends to add to the mix if the engagement and budget allows for live performances and/or any recording project they are currently working on.

Hey there!!

What's new in your world???

This Friday, we are debuting a project called Sonic Transformations. Every month or so we will present a new audio-visual performance based on a different theme/story. We will be collaborating with artists and other creative musicians along the way so let us know if you have something you'd want to bring into this project.

The first in the series is called "AN OBJECT TO CRAVE". Live music and visuals based on a short story about life, love, loss, fantasy, obsession and death.

Another group of mine, The Magnetrons, which plays an exciting and innovative Livetronica set (i.e. STS9, Disco Biscuits, The Histronic) will also be playing. It will be a musical adventure, and we hope that you can come participate :)

Here's the info:

Blood Root Mother - "An Object to Crave"
w/ The Magnetrons & Thought Thieves
Friday, October 16th
Station 4
201 E 4th St
St Paul, MN 55101

Hello!

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.

There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a new tune called Run Bobby Run:

Let us know what you think!
