Phlip Coggins, a native of Lubbock,Tx, has been performing and entertaining audiences since he was thirteen. However, music has been a major influence in his life since, well, the womb. At a young age he began studying percussion and rhythm, getting a solid background in classical training and reading music. However his passion soon turned to commercial music and by the age of 14 he was self taught in guitar, bass, and piano, among other instruments. With a strong rhythmic background he soon created his own style of playing the acoustic, treating it more like a drum than a guitar. In May of '06 Phlip graduated from South Plains College in Levelland with extensive knowledge in Commercial Music, Music Business, and Sound Technology and he attributes the bnad's SUPERIOR and UNORTHODOX SOUND tothis education. He has been involved in a myriad of projects, bands, recordings, colaborations, and live performances spread over Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. As well as apearances in NYC. Of all the bands he's been in, this one...
"is unique. IT DOESN'T FOLLOW THE RULES. Which is good for us." - Phlip Coggins
Beau Corley, Oringinally born in Elk City, Oklahoma, Beau spent the first years of his life there and by the age of nine moved to Texas. He started playing the trumpet in the school band the 6th grade all the way into his senior year of high school . During that time he played competitions from Atlanta to Honolulu, honing his skills as a musician. With an extremely broad range of influences (heavy in Punk and Rock), Beau has drawn from all music. "I love music but not overplayed, cookie-cutter pop," Says Beau...Amen. Beau started playing percussion in '99 and has since expanded his musical territory over the entire South West, and Central USA and doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon! His biggest influence? CHUCK NORRIS. Claiming that..well..."He has more chops than Van Damme!" Now, who can argue with that?
"I don't think we have even scratched the surface of what's to come in this band". - Beau Corely
The Fieldside Refugees combine guitar, handdrums, and percussion in a unique style of music many describe as "soul shattering and moving". Constantly stretching their musical abilities, these guys get to the heart of what music is about...ENERGY and FEELING... Hand-drumming MADMAN Beau Corley, dishes out a multitude of rhythmic styles ranging from punk, to reggae, to...ok it goes on and on...and on...And its often heard as a disclaimer in the audience to keep all appendages away from Beau's swinging hands while in high gear for fear of loosing a limb. (The hands actually blur in camera shots) Front man Phlip Coggins entrances and molds the experience goer's mind with his own unique, moving style of guitar, vocals, and percussion. And built on a foundation of LIVE real time recorded loops, Phlip puts icing on the cake with complex and intricate melodies that rise into soul-shattering solos. The Fieldside Refugees come together to form a unique fusion of style and energy that goes unrivaled by bands throughout the country. Standing alone, each one of these talented artists have the ability to sit in with virtually any band or solo act (and do so quite often) and enrich their quality of music several times over. Combine these 2 exceptional talents together and they become an impenetrable wall of sonance unlike any other before them. Fieldside defines music duality. And fresh out of the South Plains, on stage and in the studio, their abilities to form new and interesting jams with one another is constantly growing and improving. With packed houses all over the place, one thing is for sure...these guys are somethin' to watch out for! Gotta see it to believe it.
