The 50/50 is a unique space, ie, my basement or backyard, in nice weather. Shows here are about experiencing acoustic music in a very intimate, laid-back and sincere environment. This is not ego-stroke bullshit, so please don’t come with that attitude.
The idea is to provide an organic house show space to highlight one up-and-coming artist per month. Artists might be on tour or local to NYC. Each show is an acoustic single bill--one artist playing as long as she or he would like to.
We are welcoming to everyone and would love to see you at one of our shows. That said, please come with a respectful mindset. There are some rules:
GROUND RULES:
1. All shows cost a mere $2, if you have it. Emily thinks I'm being too uptight about this, so we are officially relaxing to suggested donation. We'll pass a hat--you give what you can.
2. Doors are at 8. Doors close at 8:45. If you are not in The 50/50 by 8:45, you will not be let in. This is my house. I reserve the right to crowd control.
3. The 50/50 is the garden apt, number 1. Entrance is on the ground level, not up the stairs. Please don't go up there. Please don't ring the bell. These are my neighbors and I like them.
4. The 50/50 is BYOB
5. Have love in your hearts.
6. Be cool, man.

"...the “coming home” show at the 50/50 was the perfect space to house Sellwood’s tunes. Sellwood told stories of following girls with friends from California to Alaska, and of firefly counts in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and wove them into rich ballads that rang through the humid Brooklyn night hopefully and honestly." -Jacqueline Garet, Impose Magazine
