The Fishwives are four young Canadian citizens with instruments. Their darkly enthusiastic indie rock with an earnest pop sensibility and an equally earnest alternative sensibility has garnered them admirers ranging from their parents, to their classmates and beyond. They have played at a number of prestigious Toronto venues, including The Reverb, The El Mocambo, The Opera House, Rancho Relaxo, outside a used book store, and the Mitchell family backyard.
"No Time for Swordplay", their debut EP, was recorded in a very hot attic during the summer of 2008, and self-released August of the same year to much acclaim from everyone they asked personally. The carnival organ garage-rock of "Rum and Band-Aids", frantic toms and razor-sharp guitar lines of "Before it Spreads", and piano-based buildup of "Shrug", are a testament to the band's three-minute-rock-song aesthetic. Their lively stage presence and tendency to dress well has earned them a reputation as lively and nicely dressed.
Among the numerous bands they've shamelessly ripped off, The Fishwives cite Radiohead, The Beatles, The White Stripes, and The Shins as influences.
What are people saying?
"What can I say about the Fishwives? They are obviously young, obviously already talented with huge growth potential and they obviously have a sense of humor with a name like the Fishwives and a first EP called "No Time for Swordplay" which features songs like "Rum and Bandaids". Talent, fun, humor and a good chance they will be around for a long, long time - how do you beat that? Watch for them!"

Toronto quartet The Fishwives’ jaunty pop-rock has a sound that’s entirely its own. Combining euphoric melodies and driving rhythms, the band exhibits lyrical and musical maturity that’s surprising given the members’ young age... [No Time for Swordplay] is an impressive first effort, so this burgeoning band is one to watch.

These purveyors of power-pop deliver a sound echoing of angular
riffs, ringing keyboards that capture that UK spirit, carefree and
freewheeling, weaving through bits of 60's pop to The Shins.
