   About The Flaming Mussolinis
The Flaming Mussolinis formed in 1984, although various members had been in local Teesside (North-east U.K) bands since the late 70s. The most notable of these bands was Basczax (see site on Myspace too) They signed to CBS in house label Portrait in 1985 and were tipped for big things. The band released five singles : 'Swallow Glass', 'My Cleopatra', 'Masuka Dan', 'Girl On A Train' and 'A Different Kind Of Love' Also, two albums : 'Watching The Film' (1986) and 'Charmed Life' (1987) Although compared to bands like U2 at the time, The Flaming Mussolinis were a band with a strong pop sensibility which set them apart from such comparisons. They had a near hit with their second single 'My Cleopatra' (included here). The band split in 1988. You might be interested to know that ex-drummer Clune who now plays for singer songwriter David Gray! I was first introduced to The Flaming Mussolinis around 1985 when Alan Fearnley ( Linthorpe Road in the boro ) put your album in my hand.
This guy really knew my taste in Music.

He told me he had seen you perform a couple of times in Stockton.
I never got the chance to see you live, but I did get to keep your album for many years, and I remember with a fiondness the tracks My Cleopatra and Catholic Wedding.
Great songs !

Masuka Dan was the first song I heard of yours to be honest, Annie Nightingale played it on her show and raved about it! That was it, a fan from the moment I heard that track! Still have the albums to this day and well played they are too!! Feeling very nostalgic now :) xxx

I bought Watching the Film in '86 just because I liked the band name and it turned out to be one of the best. I just got a USB turntable and this was one of the first albums I recorded! It's a shame you didn't make it big guys - you were so much better than most of the bands that did.

Thanks for the add. The Flaming Mussolinis were another of those bands I absolutely loved that I seemed to jinx - as hardly any bands I liked before they became successful actually got anywhere.

Still gutted I had the chance to see them live and was lazy so didn't go!!
