The Flexatones is a three piece musician/producer team from Helsinki, Finland. The trio includes Lightman, Pasi Hartikainen and Pauli Haikarainen. The Flexatones combines reggae with different areas of music and listeners might be suprised hearing shades from jazz, funk, soul and world music.
Guest musicians are multi-instrumentalist, Petri Kautto on drums and percussion, Frequent caribian touring veterans Iron Horns aka Finnish Horns. Strings are played by The Kamus quartet's Jussi Tuhkanen. Extra trumpet performed by Visa Haarala from Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Originals takes off with a spacious roots tune "Where Is The Love" which includes lead vocals by Jamaican reggae legend, Earl Sixteen. Second round is more laidback, led by always soulful Molara. "Partypeople" kicks up the session with Finnish reggae sensation Puppa J. Finland's finest soul singer, Nicole Willis joins in for two numbers. The jazzy children's song, "Fresh" and a duet with sambian Papa Zai in lovers rock, "Cause I want". Arabic influnces are heard in rootsy "Allah Light" with moroccan Momo Cat. Hia dives deeper in to the mood with the "all round man" Hosni's haunting singing in arabic with some dramatic strings. Energetic "Nice Up The Place" is sang by France based Senegalian Natty Kauka. Cheerful "Natural Girl" is performed by Jamaican Natty Fruits in geniune 80's fashion inna rub-a-dub style. The CD includes an instrumental/dub version of each seven riddims; all handmade in Finland.
