Sounds Like
Truths and Distortions was released on Setanta Records in 1992 and features Maria Mc Kee on backing vocals (Another Fool). It's available on Itunes. It received a five star rating in Q Magazine and raves in NME and Melody Maker.
Morphine Watch was released on David's own label, Tongued 'n Grooved in 2000. It features Katell Keineg duetting on Love Song To My Guru and John Parish on all instruments on Desire Will Leave Me Homeless. The title track was written from a hospital bed after Davids abdomen had been unnecessarily sliced open for exploratory abdominal surgery. He needed Morphine just to keep calm...Superbe was released in 1996 on Dead Elvis Records and features Lee Ranaldo playing guitar on four tracks and Lydia Lunch on vocals (No Excuses). Jesus Lived Six Years Longer Than Kurt Cobain was a radio hit here in Ireland. It got some crackin' reviews in NME, Select Magazine, and Uncut.
How I made my profile: I used Dave & Jay's amazing myspace profile editor.
The Floors is Irish songwriter, singer, David Donohue's band-flavoured song-writing project which began in 1994 with the release of Truths and Distortions on the Setanta label. Superbe (featuring Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth and Lydia Lunch) appeared courtesy of Dead Elvis Records in '97, and in 2000 David released Morphine Watch on his own label, TonguedN'grooved Records.
Comprised mainly of carlow based musicians, the Florrs' nucleus was Pat Donne, Paul Galbally, Ray Lowry and Ger Farrell on instruments with David singing, acompanied by occasional guest vovalists.
David began writing songs in his teens, while drumming in a Carlow band called Tension. He has since written songs with John Parish, Lydia Lunch, Maria Mc kee, Jack L, Marianne Faithfull and Katell Keineg. He is currently writing with malibu-based multi/instrumentalist/composer Jonathan Shanes.
Based in New York for much of the eighties and a lot of the nineties, David's liking of New York noise-rock, that would prove to be such an influence on his album, Superbe, blossomed into love through the making of his cult music-documentary Put Blood In The Music, featuring Sonic Youth and John Zorn. David followed up with the award winning feature-length documentary, Words For The Dying, featuring John Cale and Brian Eno. A few years later Lee Ranaldo played guitar on three tracks for David's album, Superbe, while narrating a spoken-word piece called the Bee.
David's proudest songwriting moment to date was contributing two songs, Bernadette and Stable Life, to John Parish's solo album, How Animals Move. John, who is PJ Harveys long standing collaborator and producer, also co-wrote Desire Will leave me Homeless, which appears on the album, Morphine watch.
A side project for David since 2000 has been music supervision for feature films. Among other movies, David music-supervised the oscar nominated movie, In America, and more recently the multi award winning musical Once.
Recently David has written a series of childrens books for Egmont Books in the U.K. (Check out the website on www.speazlebud.com) and is currently working on a film script. David is interested in collaborating, as a lyricist, with songwriters for 'live' (as in real) projects. No time wasters need apply. This is serious stuff!
Finland's west coast near Vaasa. There used to be decent winters here, but now the weather is windy and rainy without snow, kind of what I imagine your winter is.
