Ever since I was a kid, I've had to fend for myself because I grew up in a single-parent home. My mom went to college and worked full time. My introduction to cooking came the day I turned on the oven and placed a Van de Kamp's frozen meal in it. About 20 minutes later, I opened the oven and my food was still frozen. The oven didn't appear hot, and I was wondering what that weird smell was. So being a cave boy, I grabbed a match and lit it right in front of the oven door.
Kaboom!
That's Right, I became a human fireball. I singed every hair on my body, which, thank God, wasn't much at the time. Talk about trial and error.
It's definitely cool to know how to cook. First of all, it automatically defines you as a independent person. Nobody likes a person that can't fend for themselves. Second, the opposite sex finds it very sexy. Trust me on this one, I know.
I have fused my love of cooking and writing to create this comfort cookbook. Although these recipes are simple and tasty, you still need to know the basics, like how to make a sandwich, boil water, and scramble eggs. If you don't, I suggest you move back in with your parents and start collecting government checks.
The recipes in this book are ideal because you can make them at any time of the day and for whatever mood you are in. They reflect the creative juices and independence that dwell within all young people out on their own for the first time.
