The Four Level are internationally renowned drum and bass producer Pieter K and veteran indie rock singer/songwriter Amy Jacob. Their music, like their partnership is unique and very special.
An unlikely meeting of contrasting artists on opposite sides of the country, the improbable pair were introduced by an internet fan who was fond of Amys rock band at the time (Prosolar Mechanics) and had had been a long time fan and admirer of Pieter, whose discography notes him as one of United States and most prolific and pioneering drum n bass producers in the world. Once connected, Pieter and Amy found that they had similar ideas, wishing to move away from purely electronic, instrumental music and towards something more universal.
The first release was the single Stars from Aircraft, which was recorded as an integral track on Pieters debut album for Breakbeat Science, Everything all the Time. The single shot into numerous top tens that summer, with ample support in Europe and the US, from DJs such as Laurent Garnier and Doc Martin.
Heeding the call for more collaborative work, Pieter and Amy joined forces again, this time to produce a body of intensely personal, finely wrought, tightly crafted songs, borrowing as much from rock, jazz and traditional pop as from drum and bass, techno, and dub. No longer just the work of a producer featuring a vocalist but that of a deeply united group. The Four Level was born and thirteen songs were arranged and mixed in Los Angeles for release on BBS-which would turn out to be their debut album, Stars From Aircraft.
