Bio
The Fox Hat! are a high-energy 4/5 piece folk/rock band. Performing the length and breadth of the British Isles, they are much in demand for their infectious brand of Celtic music and songs. These are drawn from the vast library of Traditional and contemporary material and performed with a sense of fun and merriment. The Fox Hat! also regularly play music for both English Barndances and Scottish & Irish Celtic Ceilidhs. The musical repertoire of the band is based mainly on Celtic dance tunes and music. This is complemented by classics from 1066 to 2008! The talented line-up of skilful multi-instrumentalists play in a wide range and variety of styles, drawing influences from traditional Celtic Roots and Folk Rock. The music is fresh and exciting, with no two tunes ever sounding the same. Now celebrating five years since its inception, The Fox Hat! has changed from what was once a purely acoustic folk club and pub band into something altogether more exciting. Regularly performing to large audiences throughout the UK and more recently Europe, the band has gone from strength to strength. Testament to their ongoing success are numerous media appearances, four CDs and a live DVD. Their own special brand of Celtic influenced Folk/Rock is never boring. Drawing on the vast library of tradional songs and tunes then adding that special Celtic magic, this group of multi-talented performers are a natural choice for festivals, ceilidhs and concerts. -

.......... ........Geoff Newstead............Acoustic & Electric Guitars..Mandolin and Vocals.......................Geoff started out in his musical career in his teens playing ragtime..guitar around the folk clubs of the Midlands. During this period he was..introduced to the music of legendary folk rockers Fairport Convention,..a band he later went on to support, again as a solo guitarist. After..moving to Tyneside Geoff formed and regularly gigged with Geordie band..Hoggshead. Family circumstances forced a move back to the Midlands..where he formed The Craic an Irish band with whom he still occasionally..performs. Geoff's chosen guitars are a Line 6 Variax recommended by..Fairporter Maartin Allcock and a beautiful Sigma Martin D35 donated by..long time friend and amazing bluegrass guitarist Nick Wroughton. His..effects pedal is a Line Pod XT live. Geoff lives in Burton on Trent..with wife Rita and several small animals......... ........ ............Nick France............Bass/Lead Vocals............No stranger to lovers of the genre, Nick has performed at countless..major festivals fronting the now defunct Dewberry Firkin. A truly..inspiring bassist and a generally superb musician, Nick names Dave Pegg ..(Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull) as a major influence......... ........ ............ ........Mike Coleman............Drums............Mike was press-ganged into joining the band back in 2003 after.. accepting the King's shilling and copious amounts of Famous Grouse. Promises.. of fame, fortunes and his very own groupie meant nothing to him... Formerly a member of "Acorn", Mike names the legendary John Heissman among.. his main influences. Drums by Pearl and Yamaha. Mike lives in.. Leicestershire with his wife Judith. .. ...... ......THE FIDDLERS...... ........ ............ ........Tom Fairbairn..........Hailing from Manchester, Tom has played with the band since 2004..replacing Laura Mattison when she vanished off to University. Tom was the..fiddle presence in BBC Award winning dance band Whapweasel He also..performs with Moondance and English dance band Pigeon English........ ........ ............ ........Tom Kitching..........Often sounding more like Dave Swarbrick than Dave Swarbrick, Tom joins.. us when not touring with Gren Bartley. For his Fox Hat performances.. Tom often downs his acoustic fiddle to play a green glitter custom.. electric beast! ........ ......Guest Appearances...... ........ ............ ........Brian Heywood............Occasionally and certainly not often enough we manage to persuade Brian Heywood to join us on lead guitar. Originally from Australia Brian never ceases to amaze us. He is graced with a truly natural, intuitive feel for our style of music and adds another dimension to our sound. Apart from being a fine musician he is also an authority on all things technical and writes for several major music publications. In his spare time he doubles as Mr Fairbairn's transport and logistics manager............... ........ ............ ........Julie Belk............Occasionally we feel the need for a female vocalist and it's on these..occasions we call on Welsh songbird Julie. Living near Wrexham with her..husband Chris and two lovely children. We're pleased that Julie has agreed to appear on our..forthcoming new studio album....... .. .. .... .. ...... -
