Band Websitegee who needs one anyway huh ponyboy
Band MembersJim Bravo-six sonnets from head to ground, drums, bass, rhythm & lead guitars, vocals, grass-green horn, oil paint and graphite, raised on seafood and plantain, not raised on a plantation, wears a chameleon blazer, pants between bootcut and flare, feet exactly one foot long so you can depend on him if you lose your tape measure, although count him out for any actual renovation help, has frequent out of body experiences, is good at spotting sugarcane from considerable distances, is paranoid and terrible with money, prone to luddite aloofness due to rapidly advancing technologies, hates what he calls "afternoon" jazz, hates the summer and people who rave about it, not a fan of kids less than 2 yrs old so don't show him your "cute" baby, was in search of Cecilia Beaux and The Fourth Estate and found her in Philadelphia....Hail Atlantis!

Bravo! Beer!

Mandy Mintz- four and a quarter sonnets from head to ground, punk prog and monty python, Lead guitar, rhythm guitar, melting dali guitars, vocals, 88s (Mintzian for piano), broken harmonium, shakers, weird tambourine hits, muffled obscenities, barbed wire, liquids and gases, hailing from the sides of the north, dog-skin horn, sheep eye amulet, thoughts between Feltro and Feltro, huge wingspan, now permitted to work in your country, van rentals, high-water pants, jumps out of trees and attacks people, feet the exact length of jim's hand from fingertip to wrist but don't count on getting that close in order to check, in search of old copies of "In Search Of", wrote the Too Many Men diaries, owns way too many tapes, says that one can never own enough, wears a Long live Vinyl cilice, knows when you're lying, midnight conferences with Amducias.....what's that in the shadows?

MandyHead

And our faithful road warriors, the real two live crew.......................................................................................................... Mondo Lulu -five and a half sonnets from head to ground, live Bass guitar, cd/promo graphics, band archivist, hates postering, loves corduroy and lentils, fava-bean horn, band medic, ritual stage dances, once said "Not so tighty, whitey" to an Irish stagehand, perfect David Lee Roth jumps, stopped collecting comics after his first kiss, took us to see iron maiden, feet so small we don't know how he stands up, 3 grammy davis juniors for best hair, in search of more and more cameras, has a picture of you....set for stun!

87 in 05

Kevin Anderson-five and a quarter sonnets from head to ground, live Drums, seances by Detroit River, chesterfield horn, big in Japan, even bigger on the Vancouver Island ferry, official band shrink, hates postering, loves driving, gets the fear when Mandy reaches for the radio, recurring nightmare about past life as a tumbleweed fan operator, mysterious trips to Burlington, feet so small we don't know how he holds mondo up, vows to replace Don Cherry, loves Frank Black, hates Frank Black, wonders why Jim and Mandy always wear black, in search of the perfect chicken wing, has an official impostor in the creamers, owns lots of gear...lots.......is this happening now?

A Tough Audience

InfluencesMUSICAL: that JohnPaulGeorgeandRingo monster.....Chum30 circa 1983....archaic folk tunes hummed by our folks....Rasta radios at Christie Pits....blaring window radios of Kensington market....B-boy radios at Christie Pits....long lost mixed tapes containing tons of unknowns.... VISUAL: Painting....Violet Oakley, Odilon Redon, Felicien Rops, Jeff Doyle, Franz von Stuck, Franz von un-Stuck, Ensor, Hodler, Klimt.....Photography i.e. darkroom accidents.....Architecture i.e. everything not found in Toronto......maybe some contemporary art........on second thought hardly any.................................................................... GENERAL: the moon, the weather, Cancer, Capricorn, TVs on mute, Winter, being in the shade, dwindling bank accounts, bugs and all things we deliberately/accidentally ingest, rejection letters, the living, the dead, the half dead, TVs out the window..
Sounds Likethings simultaneously disconnecting from a solid mass, hovering and buzzing above it, reconnecting briefly, and then disconnecting again..

   About The Beethoven Frieze
Invented and maintained by Jim Bravo and Mandy Mintz and active from 2001 thru to 2007.....basically a six-year reign atop the 'when the fuck are they ever gonna play again" heap, shot through with a few surprising glimpses of major and minor airwave and press support. After a few boisterous millenium-period incarnations, The Beethoven Frieze officially entered the picture with our DUTCH CONCERT ep in 2001. "Y'all are cute 'n all but y'all ain't nobodys without a c and d thangy!" said the US customs gaurd. So we got to it. The gaurd had suggested the title THERE BE NO BUTTER IN HELL (because there isn't) but dutch concert won out. Many micro-releases ("Roofhopping" ep, "Absolutely Mutely" e.p.) and cross-country/cross-border adventures later it is suddenly 2008 and sadly, for some anyway, the frieze has come off the wall. The posthumous release date of our last batch of recordings (patiently mixed mastered and magyvered by Matthew Robinson of 122 Greige) which will be either called THE BUSINESS OF HARD PAN AND CRANK or HISTORY WILL SHOW YOU COULDN'T DANCE TO IT) is now in the angelic hands of the good people at Dig This Real Productions, NYC. We're broke and they are not you see. In any case our final ep POPAGRAMMATON is out there now, drunk and prowling the streets. Please find it before it finds you. In the meantime Jim yesthatshisrealname Bravo (now active in the Phantastic Prayer-Book) continues to paint and Mandy yesthatsmyrealnamesodon'taskagain Mintz (now active in Mandeverest) continues to amass an enormous collection of rings.

Happy New Year! What better way to begin Oh 9 then to post a new song and that is precisely what I've gone and done! Let me know what you think of that Miss Betty Grable! :)
I wrote the music ten years ago and the lyrics this past summer. I hope you enjoy! )

That was a great set at Sneaky Dee's for Wavelength, supercharged high-energy rock, capturing the brash spirit of Pavement and seamlessly blending it with a 70's classic-rock ethos. A dynamic edge that works well large and intimate.
