All the wonderful and amazing tutors from Pump Up The Jam and Plugged In who gave us the drive and confidence to get into songwriting in the first place!
One day in September of 2007 two close friends Katy Forrest and Sean Hall decided they would form a band. After going to Plugged In and Pump Up The Jam at the Tolbooth they found the inspiration and determination to write new and gradually better material of their own.
The Book, in which lyrics and chords are kept was where it really did begin. So far there are quite a few songs in it, to name a few-
This Old House, Let's Watch Paint Dry, Hours and Caller ID. Yet still the band are writing improved and better material.
The band is mainly acoustic, with the exception of an electric guitar here and there.
ahaha. but, but, but, seeeeannnnnn. How do you know the new stuff is better? so ner. And whatever. I miss seeing you guys play. You're a pretty singer!! xox
guyyyyyyyyyyyyyys. You need to get out there again, play a gig somewhere! What happened to the forst gig idea? that was a good one!! come on, come on, come on, get ouuuuut there! (I could probably have told you that sometime to your face or something, but oh well! I felt like myspace was fun) xoxox
There was brief period I was looking into organising the macrobert music sessions but unfortunately circumstances got it the way. I believe a promotion group called bad seed attempted to give the macrobert's music scene an enlightenment but from what I heard the numbers didn't really make an impression on the most recent night they ran. They were aiming on bringing in some bigger acts though.
Most of the Macrobret's previous live music nights (of which I've been part of) have been fundraisers or related to youth theatre projects (such as with the intentions of going to the fringe) and from my communcations their interest was as far as hosting 3/4 such nights a year - my spin on which was for student targeting, ie one in september, february and make early june. An acoustic cafe feel could be generated though. Let me know what word you get back though.
Why would we bring anyone who gets drunk? Neither of us drink or have any friends...
It sounds an interesting concept, somewhere between mainstream indie and simply getting in touch with nature. I'll pass it on but if it's next week or something it might prove a bit difficult for I too have exams (15th-22nd) and we are planning some recording adventures over the next 3 weeks as well. Still, when you have dates and the like pass them on and I'll see how they fit in. Sounds fun anyway.
Are you two going about trying to arrange more of your own gigs?
Well, right back is probably my most common position though I began as a centre back, then pushed into central midfield for a bit and probably now I'm most at home as an attacking right full back, or D/DM RC in football manager 2007 terms.
Pff, I've seen the bebo - you're all liverpool fans for some reason. Bet you don't even know who Chris Aitken is.
Go into more details. Where, when and how much? I can offer a variety of services from publicity officer to musician... or just turn up and watch if that's what you're asking.
I gotta stop leaving double comments but How Come sounds remarkably like both a Maddam Two Sods song and a BTS tune... it better not be a G D C I'm listening to...
Yeah, Scribblers would be good fun as would arranging a gig. Hope it gets good weather this year! I seem to recall the last 3 years (2 of which I had bands playing, 1 of which I was playing football at) have involved a good deal of rain which is always a bit of a pain for an outdoors festival.
How far ahead have you guys thought about arranging a gig; scale, venue, etc.?
Hey guys, cheers for the kind words and naturally your (especially discounted) attendance! Anyways:
The BTS project was an amalgamation of our work this year. To try and summarise, it was the final project of all our jam night appearances where we played about 30 odd songs over 4 months. The band was kinda selected on musical merit and an interest in the project. Neil is the drummer from Hey Enemy, The Encierro and many other projects from over the years. He also teaches and works in Andy Simpsons so that's maybe where you know him from. Malcolm the guitarist was nicked after some stunning solo performances at Nicky Tam's and Amreet was poached by Barry when she played trumpet for a touring Australian artist in the summer.
It's kinda hard to summarise actually. It both is the end and not the end of this project - hopefully I'll be aiding Barry on his next plan which should start immediately but going down a different musical route (either stripped back "coffee house" sound or more of an electro direction). However, before any of that we're recording one of the tracks from the gig and if luck goes our way some interviews we did and *touch wood* a tune from the night will make their way onto national radio before then.
The best thing to do now is to go to the bebo: http://www.bebo.com/BarryM6160 and send him your e-mail addresses for the mailing list we're putting together. He might also be able to explain it all better to you! Anyway, watch this space, something else will be kicking off soon.
Hey guys, Been a while - guess that's uni work etc taking it's toll on me, ach well - it's only going to get more intense from here on in!
Was good to see yous at the beanscene, actually quite a cool night all round. Kinda got a friendly, or at least a very different, atmosphere from the pub open mics we've been to but was nice to keep bumping into folk - old and new!
How did your pump out the jams gig go? And I've just noticed that you were playing the rock centre tonight, when did that come through and how was it? How much of your own stuff are you putting in sets these days?
All the best, hope you're looking forward to the next reloaded, I know I am!
Hey i got a glimpse of you's at the acoustic night on saturday, unfortunately i came dead late though so i only saw your faces and didnt hear you's play. i was pretty gutted. my mates said you's were really good though, so just thoghut you should know (y) ryan
Nice to meet yous tonight :) I just noticed your "pump up the jam" thing, care to explain some more details? if it sounds good I might just try and persuade someone or other out of an 'invite' and attend!
sorry i couldnt personally make it even though i was meant to be playing with a mate but we'd aleready done two acoustic nights in two days but i hope all went well. sorry we couldnt come
Cheers guys. No new gigs currently on the horizon, guess we should probably wait as people get their heads down at uni and start things back up again in the summer. Well, maybe wait and see until then anyway - I'll keep searching for festival opportunities until then.
Wanting to play at beanscene are we? We wrote a song about that place... back in the day...
we thought they were going to be a lot more negative due to our genre and the other types of bands playing. so when some of the guys said they liked the "riffage" we were well chuffed
Cheers for the add guys, saw yous at your botb and kicking about at the tolbooth today, hope all is well - now go and give our songs a listen and some opinions! Cheers, A.
