The Funknecks were born in a back shed of Brunswick in late ..06, when Karl and Tim got together to
slam out some bass groove ideas...they thought, "We can do this as a 2 piece" until they realized they
could..nt sing that well.....enter Dallas Heron on vocals and the rest...as they say is history.
A
compilation of rock,funk,punk,disco and a
beat of the 80..s. The Funknecks create their own
thump rock original sound. With comparisons to early UK punk, B52..s, Ian Curtis, Talking Heads,
Defunkt and the New York no wave experimental sounds. The Funknecks are a trio of bass attitude,
with the driving force of the bass being the emphasise of the sound. With just bass, drums and vocals,
these guys make a mammoth groove. Karl brings his particular bass style to the mix, combined with
the 4 to the floor monster foot of Tim and the enthusiastic, on going and exceptional persona of front
man Dallas, makes The Funknecks something awe inspiring!
Their debut EP.. Soon, Baby Soon was released in May ..08 with shows to back the release,
gathering them an army of fans and rotation on local stations around Australia and New Zealand as
well as featuring on Rage for several weeks with their music video "Mental",
directed and produced by Stuart Simpson for Lost Art Films.
The Funknecks have graced many Melbourne top venues - The Espy, The Evelyn, Revolver,
Ding Dong Lounge, The Greyhound, The Empress, East Brunswick Club etc...
Some supports include Ash Grunwald & Blue King Brown as part of The Torquay Blues & Roots
Festival and in March ..09 they highlighted at the annual Sydney Rd Street Party as part of the
Brunswick Festival.
It..s shaping up to be a busy year for these thumpers! Stay tuned.....
What the people are saying....
The Funknecks blew my mind! A
three piece with a
wild lineup and funky sounds. Bass, drums and
vocals. Imagine Ian Curtis fronting a New York no wave band in 1979. All the players sing, the lead
vocals having the angst and presence to make you take notice. Obscure bands like Defunkt and the
Bush Tetras come to mind. Even James White and the Blacks. I see lots of capable bands but few
outright stunning bands. The Funknecks are one of those bands. The vocals were scat like at times.
The bass and drums weld together and without a guitar the sound is crisp and clear. The vocalist
really wound himself up and he had that epileptic quality the characterized Ian Curtis. Jerky
movement, perfectly in time with the chunky funky sounds. Check them out but see them live to get
the experience.

Hmm,been listening to Devo and Interpol lately?Im not sure exactly how I
feel about electro rock
being made with the sort of slap funk bass that would make Flea blush; there's "juxtaposition" and
there's "lunacy". And still, I cant help but like theses dudes. Whyyy? Send help!

G'day Come on down to the Tote on Sunday the 27th of September to celebrate the end of another Footy season. The back line will be ably defended by Gruntbucket. Coming off the bench to take their position on the wing are Dirty York. Winning the ball at all the stoppages will be the mighty mid field attack of The Get Go. They'll send the ball rocketing toward the fantastic forward line of Clinkerfield who are sure to kick a swag of goals. There'll be plenty of snags on the barbie to help with the hangover.
