   About The Future
The Future is a three-piece rock outfit from Minneapolis, Minnesota that plays a unique style of shark-attack music. The Future has worked at a frantic rate since it's inception in 20005, and has since continued to play a frenzy of shows throughout the twin cities. this is not pop music, this is art

raw and immediate.

an all out assault against the homogenized pop culture.

delicious.

human was the music, natural was the static.

The young band has been kicking around for the past year, blowing ear drums and turning heads with its sometimes funny and/or frightening stage show. Their debut CD, “Neon Black” confirms its future should indeed be bright, with cleverly frayed songs that go for the jugular.
Chris Riemenschneider - Star Tribune

Despite the band name, The Future is all about right now. The band’s music has a lot more to do with rawness and immediacy than any particular message. The punk power-trio builds its sound out of brash, boisterous rock in the Melvins vein. Chris Bahn – The Onion

What does the future hold? Black hair, fuzzy agro=rock, and plenty of pun headlines. Neon Black, The Future’s debut release, is a frothy mix of distorted energy and angular song structure, recalling the eyday of the Jesus Lizard and, bu proxy of influence, Big Black. Chuck Terhark – City Pages

They took the stage dressed in black and burgundy, and as the lights went down, what sounded like a final instrument check exploded into their first song, I looked around the room and people had big smiles on their faces; these guys are going to be something, I could hear it (sort of). They were unleashing Neon Black upon the populous, and damaging the hearing of everyone in their immediate vicinity inside the Entry. Math Johnson's drum kit sounded like it might splinter into pieces and hurtle into the audience, or maybe they'd grab the pieces and assail the crowd themselves. Luckily, the kit stayed assembled and we didn't have to find out. This must be what people thought of bands like KISS at first: “This is obviously a stage show...where do I buy a t-shirt again?” Only time will tell what lies ahead for The Future but it looks like it could shape up to be a good year and I'll go on record as forcefully rooting for them. Pat O'Brien - howwastheshow.com

As a band, The Future was at their best when they were building momentum. The arrangements of their songs incorporated several changes leading down a winding path that got wider the further it unfurled. The songs featured a lone guitarist using a series of stuttering riffs to push the listener forward. A few well-placed pauses served to announce a sudden turn in the path while the scowling bassist rammed his parts down the shoulder of the road like a bulldozer. The most obvious thing about the band was the drummer. A small bespectacled, unimposing figure as he walked through the venue, he became a giant menace the second he got behind his kit. He hammered the drums like a 400-pound gorilla gone crazy on cocaine and wild moonshine. This de facto front man was singularly worth the price of admission. His drums thundered through the Varsity and rattled the lampshades. Charlie Vaughn - howwastheshow.com

The difference in the visual appearance and audio assault of The Future caught me off guard. They looked like they walked straight out of the Pretty In Pink prom scene with tuxedo shirts and new wave haircuts, but they sounded like The Stooges covering Minor Threat - while slipping in a few off-kilter Radiohead-like key changes to keep everyone on their toes. They played angry and mean music, and the songs were mostly under three minutes, but that didn't stop them from cramming two guitar solos into one song, and having it make perfect sense. Nothing seemed forced, tired or pretentious. Maybe it's the way they didn't smile to acknowledge that the outfits were a joke, the way rhythm guitarist Tony Monochrome looked like he might pass out from playing so hard, Or bassist Red Wayne's feathered 'do (complete with rat tail) - but I believed them. They are serious and should be taken seriously. Pat O'Brien - howwastheshow.com
