The Future Shape Of Sound

The Future Shape Of Sound

The Future Shape Of Sound is a mixture of Northern Soul, scratchy Blues, 1960s film soundtracks and vintage erotica: It is Space Age Gangster Soul!

The London-based project is spearheaded by producer Alex McGowan and singer Big Daddy Kai who are the main writers on their two releases “Mad DNA Mud” (album 2007) and the forthcoming EP “Eleven 59 –EP” produced at Alex’s studio Space Eko. “Eleven 59 - EP” will be out later in 2011 on the fantastic MOSTAR RECORDS inviting you to join a party gone wrong… The first release from the EP is the single "Thinking Bad Thoughts", a banter between the Devil and a priest set against a sexy Northern Soul track featuring guest appearances by Arni Hjorvar (The Vaccines) on bass and Jack Cowens (Dub Pistols) on drums. Lead vocals Big Daddy Kai and Nomtai Mabo. The tune is available on the far too modern Itunes:

"Eleven 59 - EP" contains six songs mixing Northern Soul with scratchy Blues and vintage erotica featuring Big Daddy Kai, Alex McGowan, Nomtai Mabo, and guests Son Of Dave, PJ Higgins (Natacha Atlas), Jack Cowens (Dub pistols), Arni Hjorvar (The Vaccines), Marc Layton Bennett (Jah Wobble).

The CD itself comes in a cool retro vinyl look and there is additional bonus CDrom content with individual elements of the song Eleven 59 for remixing pleasure.

The album Mad DNA Mud

ImageFra.me

The Album title Mad DNA Mud is not only a perfect representation of the music, it is actually an anagram for 'Mum and Dad'.

Drawing inspiration from the 1960s and before, the album is an experimental journey from upbeat soul-cellar party music to Hip Hop via the Blues into more obscure Film Noir territories. Mixing genres, styles and flavours like a play on word, Mad DNA Mud lives up to it's name while inventing a new genre: 'Space Age Gangster Soul'

The album is available on Itunes: Mad DNA Mud - The Future Shape of Sound

Hi, We were recently asked why the title track of our EP is called "Eleven 59". Eleven 59 is a party track to 'put on' just before the world comes to an end... The music industry is changing. Musicians should understand with their 'creative and artistic minds' that they have to adapt and think about innovative ways of selling their music. Needs that did not exist should be created even if they are unnecessary. New niches in the market are to be discovered. The marketing dept here at The Future Shape Of Sound thinks outside the box and has come up with a number of pioneering concepts to pave the way to a more certain future. Here is one of them: .. The title refers to one minute before midnight on the Doomsday clock. The full version of the song has a one-minute intro (a Baptist-preacher-style speech, delivered by the Reverend Big Daddy Kai). This will enable you to put on the track at exactly one minute before the big crunch so that the actual music will kick in at the precise moment the world will come to an end. .. Throughout history there have always been groups of people who insist the apocalypse is imminent. We believe they can be a lucrative target group and possibly one of the last surviving demographics, which could be tricked into "paying" for music as they have a true emotional involvement with the idea of the track. Also they may not be too worried about hanging on to their cash for obvious reasons. .. Airplay: Despite our 'artistic and creative minds' we recognise the inherent problems: If the end of the world only lasts a split second you wouldn't hear much of the track. Therefore we can only hope that the end of the world will take at least 4 minutes so that the entire song will be aired. However, even if the end of the world was to take more than 4 minutes, chances are that the stereo wouldn't be working anymore or you've been relieved of your i-pod by a gang of what used to be law-abiding citizens during the preceding anarchy, or it has run out of battery because everyone at London Electricity has already gone home. .. Another risk is that you may not be sure when exactly the end of the world is coming. By the time you know it, it may be too late and you possibly haven't had a chance to put the track on. Well, be prepared! .. With all this uncertainty we completely understand that you may be tempted to play the song on other occasions i.e. one minute before the end of something so that the music will mark the beginning of whatever after the end of whatever. New Year's Eve is one of many perfect examples. The lyrics and music are written to inspire a party atmosphere and distract from the unfortunate event that is the end of the world or the events that have led up to it fuelled by human greed and stupidity. It provides an emotional escape from reality, which is exactly what the majority of people want at that point in time or in fact any time. .. We pride ourselves in having contributed a relevant song to the over-saturated music landscape, where, let's face it, all new music, inc ours, is unnecessary. There is so much great music out there that one individual person could spend their life discovering 'new' existing music. Eleven 59 is potentially the last song ever played before the end of existence. In fact, we will be the full stop at the end of music history. .. Thanks for listening Yours Capt Future and the Future Crew <div style='display:none'>229c8491ed8caf647a10846650d9aac1</div>
