The Gadjo Players are an electric jazz band from Madison, WI. We play many
styles including Standards, Gypsy Swing, Blues, Bebop, Latin, Fusion, both covers and originals. Our debut CD, ‘Between Two Waters,’ gets regular airplay on local radio. We have performed in front of standing room only crowds at places such as The Brink Lounge, The Restaurant Magnus, Tyranena Brewery, High Noon Saloon, The Overture Center, and many festivals and events. We also play private parties and weddings, which really helps get our name out.
The Gadjo Players formed in January 2005. We were originally an eclectic acoustic band that played Gypsy Swing, Latin, Celtic, and Bluegrass. As of 2009, we went back to our roots and plugged in our electric instruments. Matt Krueger is the glue that binds the band. He's the ultimate rhythm guy, he played the guitar-like octave mandolin in the original inception of the band. Now he’s behind his original instrument, the drums. Ben Johnson brings the heart and soul of the bass to the group. He's also the mad scientist behind the scenes taking care of the recording and live sound, web and album design, and business administration. Nate Hess is a wizard on the mandolin. He went to school in Red Wing to learn how to build the very instruments we play! Cory Dinkle is the latest addition to the Gadjo family. He plays an American standard Fender Stratocaster giving him that classic guitar sound that we love so much! We believe that change is the mark of progress and by playing electric instead of acoustic, we have a lot more versatility and range of sound without that annoying feedback from the instruments. We love our new direction, but we still pay homage to the past by supporting our 2007 debut CD, 'Between Two Waters.'
