The Galipaygos are a six piece alt-country/folk group based in Inverness, Scotland.
Formed in 2003, the band has released three albums: Look no Heartbreak (2004), Trucker Chic (2005). and The Demise of Gary Lipgloss (2007) with a new album due in Spring 2009.
Their influences span the 1960s/1970s country rock of The Byrds, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and The Band; and contemporary Americana acts like Ryan Adams, Calexico and Wilco. Displaying a superb melodic touch, a gift for telling observational detail and a wry sense of humour, their music has drawn comparisons to The Grateful Dead, The Jayhawks and Teenage Fanclub, earning them a healthy live following around the Highlands, and much critical acclaim.
Performing across Scotland, the band has supported such acts as The Cosmic Rough Riders, Dogs Die in Hot Cars, The Handsome Family, Josh Ritter and King Creosote.
Amongst the highlights of their live career to date was a support gig with The Delgados at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, and opening for British Sea Power, Aberfeldy and The Proclaimers at The Beauly based Belladrum Festival.
The bands music has been featured in independant Scottish film Pondlife and the ITV foood/ travel programme The Woman Who Ate Scotland.
Throughout their career the band have played numerous live radio sessions for Moray Firth Radio and in 2007 the band played two live sessions for BBC Radio Scotland - one on The Highland Cafe and the other for (The Mighty) Tom Morton.
In 2008 the bands music has been played by Stuart Baillie (ex. NME) on BBC Radio Ulster describing Gary Lipgloss as tremendous work and by Mark Lamarr on BBC Radio God Jukebox (Our hats are off to both men!)

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
