Dan Wilks: Six- and twelve-string guitar, tenor and baritone ukulele, harmonica

Neil Morris: Mandolin, octave mandolin, guitar, bouzouki, harmonica, whistle

Influences
Dan:

Hard to say really, i suppose some of them are: Daniel Brereton r.i.p. (who taught me my first chords), The Reverend Horton Heat, Alice in Chains, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The Pogues, Scott Matthews, Stephen Fretwell, Johnny Cash, Jawbone, Hendrix, Julie Fowlis, Kate Bush, Eric Bibb, Imogen Heap, Joni Mitchell.

Neil:

People I've been listening to a lot lately: Fairport Convention, George Frederic Handel, Steeleye Span, Leonard Cohen, AKUS, Bruce Molsky, Mike Oldfield, Mozaik, Ryan Teague, Planxty, Jackie Oates, Henry Purcell.

Influences from when I thought I was a guitar player: Richard Thompson, Mark Knopfler, Mike Oldfield, J.J. Cale.

As a mandolin player I just sort of transferred what I liked to play on a guitar (and found it easier to do on the mandolin) so I haven't really been influenced by any mandolin players.

General influences: all the people I watched performing in folk clubs in South Wales in the 1980s and especially all the wonderful bands I saw and played with in the Coach House, Swansea. I also love trance and techno music - the louder and thumpier the better (yes, I'm serious!).

.
Sounds Like
Not too sure really... we think our music sounds 'folky' but that may have more to do with the instruments we use than the music we play. We do play a few traditional tunes and we both love folk music but I don't think either of us would describe ourselves as 'folk musicians'. We're open to suggestions... :-)

   About The Gambling Lambs

It all started around the middle of 2008, when Neil and Dan bumped into each other in the local pub and started talking about guitars. It took Dan a few months to persuade Neil to bring his instrument to the pub one Friday evening but eventually they found themselves squeezed into a corner with a couple of guitars, competing with the jukebox and a television set.

Neil had been playing guitar for 30-odd years and was getting a little bored with it. After a couple of weeks, much to Dan's horror, he turned up with a mandolin! Amazingly, things suddenly started to sound quite promising and they went from strength to strength, playing a mix of English, Scottish, Irish and American tunes as well as (mostly) their own self-penned instrumental pieces, and can now be seen frequently at the Castle public house in Bishop's Stortford.

They are currently writing new material and building up their repertoire with a view to venturing out into the big wide world in the new year.

The Gambling Lambs also have a 'live rehearsal' in the back bar of The Castle every Monday evening at around half past nine - everyone welcome!

Fixed it sooner than I thought, loving the songs especially Anniversary Song. The harmonica part is haunting, love it. Would love to hear the songs with a singer. Keep in touch.

Thanks for the kind words. It's rare for people to actually take the time to listen to other peoples stuff on here. I'll repay the favour once I get my computer fixed later this week ( I'm using my phone at the moment).

Beautiful music you've got here!
You remind me of  folk bands like Heron, Steeleye Span, Sweeney's Men
