The Gasoline Brothers is een extreem luie band. Twee jaar lang laten ze vrijwel niets van zich horen en dan verwachten ze dat de vaderlandse muziekpers en muziekfans massaal in katzwijm vallen voor hun nieuwe album Tsk!?

Nou ja, aan de andere kant: het is wel een heel mooi plaatje geworden. Met de nodige ijzersterke popsongs, catchy melodieën en gelaagde samenzang. Een logische, maar ook verrassende opvolger van het debuut Hm! uit 2006. The Gasoline Brothers zijn duidelijk gegroeid. En weten dat ook.
The Gasoline Brothers maakten in 2006 een stormachtige entree met het album Hm! Hun mix van indiepop, alt. country en rock & roll met een Guided By Voices-tic sloeg duidelijk aan. Energieke live-optredens en juichende recensies leidden tot een druk jaar. Met veel clubconcerten , media-aandacht en mooie schouderklopjes als ‘behoorlijk fenomenaal’ (VPRO-coryfee Jaap Boots) en ‘Geweldig! Pop van de bovenste plank. twee keer draaien en je zingt ze allemaal mee’ (LiveXS).
Maar we zeiden het al: The Gasoline Brothers zijn nogal lui. Pas na twee jaar bedacht de band dat een tweede album een goed idee zou zijn. Gelukkig was één ding meteen duidelijk: als er dan gewerkt moet worden, dan gaat het ook hard. En met passie. Zes dagen hadden The Gasoline Brothers nodig om Tsk! op te nemen en te mixen. In de Mailmen Studio van Martijn Groeneveld spatten de vonken ervan af.
En als een band ervan overtuigd is dat het eindresultaat gewoon teringgoed is, dan neemt het enthousiasme het over.
In 2006 verschuilden de bandleden zich nog achter pseudoniemen. Anno 2009 is het afgelopen met de gimmick en mag iedereen weten dat Roel Jorna (zang/gitaar/toetsen), Mathijs Peeters (gitaar/zang, ook bekend als gitarist van Solo en Jaap Boots & de Natte Honden), André Wierenga (bas/toetsen/zang) en Léon Geuyen (drums/zang) The Gasoline Brothers vormen. O ja, ze komen gewoon uit Utrecht.
Tsk! verschijnt net als Hm! op het My First Sonny Weissmuller-label en wordt gedistribueerd door Konkurrent. Releasedatum: 24 augustus 2009. Voorafgaand aan het album verschijnt op 22 juni de single Psychosomatic Heart Failure.
Overigens: The Gasoline Brothers verwachten nu inderdaad dat de pers en alle muziekfans massaal in katzwijm vallen. Gewoon omdat Tsk! een prachtig plaatje is geworden.
