The Gator CLub wasn't always the hot night spot that we all know and love today. It has gone through many phase in its long life, from a soda fountain shop to a location for illegal passions. The Gator was built in 1913 and was known as Worth's Block. The building started life as a grocery store until the real estate boom in the 20's and became office space until the late 20's. After being turned into a Cigar store the Gator became known for having up to date information on all sporting events and was a gathering spot for many on game day with its loud speaker outside projecting the game. 1933 saw the end of Prohibition and the beginning of the Gator Bar and Grill, and soon the clientel began to grow. Circus performers, from the Ringling Brothers Circus, animal handlers, and even blacksmiths began making the Gator Bar and Grill a daily stop. Over the next 60 some years the condition and reputaion began to deteriorate and the upstairs was alleged to have been a house of ill repute, a brothel. Currently the Gator Club is one of the hottest spots to see and be seen. Live music escapes the doors nightly and the drinks flow freely. The Bartenders and cocktail waitresses are friendly and egar to please. Open 7 days a week with most bands beginning at 9:30.
