The Gems demand attention. Crunchier than the lettuce in your Mum’s crisper, they create their own infectious pastiche of pop and rock that sits somewhere on the fence between face-meltingly edgy and vending-machine accessible, and do it with finesse.
This Melbourne four-piece have been winning crowds over since forming in early 2008, and have gone from strength to strength since launching their debut self-titled EP to a packed-like-sardines crowd last November. It received airplay on RRR which led to a Live’n’Local spot at the St. Kilda Festival and was also featured on SYN FM’s Sweet Sixteen in February this year.
The Gems have been a consistent, hard working unit since conception. The shows have kept coming, and each outing has been complemented by a drive to improve the performance and keep the salad fresh. This ensures a truckload of new material unveiled to lucky punters. The collection of songs that make up The Middle 8 is a Hundred Bars have been in production since mid ’08, and are a confident step forward from four determined young artists.
