Our core sound is blues classics such as "Before You Accuse Me," "Crossroads" and "Hoochie Coochie Man"; gutbucket rock like "Sympathy for the Devil," "Hey Joe" and "Keep Your Hands To Yourself"; and hard-bitten country such as "Folsom Prison Blues."
Gentleman Jack is an exciting new band from the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. The group plays a gritty mix of straight blues, hard country and organic rock.
Gentleman Jack believes, in the words of critic Nat Hentoff...
“The blues is the common language not only of jazz but of the western swing of Merle Haggard and Bob Willis. It is also at the molten core of that rock music which lasts beyond a minute on the charts. The blues is much, much more American than apple pie.”
There's no jazz in Gentleman Jack's setlist, but our core sound is blues classics such as "Before You Accuse Me," "Crossroads" and "Hoochie Coochie Man"; gutbucket rock like "Sympathy for the Devil," "Hey Joe" and "Keep Your Hands To Yourself"; and hard-bitten country such as "Folsom Prison Blues."
The Gentleman Jack Blues Band is: lead singer/rhythm guitarist Brad Matthews, lead guitarist Clarke Cooper, bassist Steve Eisenstadt, and drummer Robert Ruth. We came together from diverse musical backgrounds but know to be true what blues shouter Jimmy Rushing once said:
“Anytime a person can play the blues he has a soul, and that gives him a sort of lift to play anything else he wants to play. The blues are a base, like a foundation to a building.”
The Gentleman Jack Blues Band aims for that place in your soul where the blues and bluesy music lives. Come see us, and listen, and dance, and join the fun.
