   About The German Art Students
Andy and Kirk started this project band two years after the collapse of their previous racket, "Danger Prone Daphne". Their first drummer was, Chuck Weidenbach. Chuck lasted two rehearsals with the band and suddenly quit because of the smell in Kirk's basement. Kirk said he wasn’t going to radon test his house just at the whim of some drummer. Then Jonathon Argue entered the picture. Jonathon performed two shows with The German Art Students at O'Cayz Corral. Because G.A.S. was fortunate enough to open for The Bomboras in April of 1998, Jonathon decided to move on as their T-shirt vendor. We still hear from him time to time. In March of 1998 Annelies Howell joined the band. She said the UW Memorial Union wouldn’t let her play her Gretsch, Tennessean at open mike night, so she would find a proper musical outlet that would. In June of 1998, Randy Ballwhan, a local music scribe joined as their final permanent drummer. He said he was so moved by the music of G.A.S. he couldn’t imagine playing for any other band and was about to throw his drum kit into Lake Mendota. Luckily for Randy, Kirk happened to be on the lake with his pontoon boat and saved Randy's kit just in time for them to play at Rob Jacob and Kristi Marks's East Johnson Street apartment. G.A.S. was solidified at this point, pursuing the rigors of a career in rock music. Oh yes, they have had their share of accolades, tacit approval, odd stares and broken strings, but they are forever committed to you, the listener. We like our pals, Teenage Imposters, Screamin Cyn Cyn and the Pons, The Wrong Ways, The Low Czars, Arena Venus, Tangy, Knuckledragger, The Motorz, Awesome Car Funmaker, The Hat Party, Driftless Pony Club, IfIhadAHiFi, The Skintones, The Gomers, Southerly, The Motorcycle Prom Dates, The Treats, Spin Spin Coupling, Telenovela, House of Large Sizes, Poster Children, BoyGirlBoyGirl, Sidecar Monkey, Wendy Bugatti, The Kites, Digibot, The New Recruits, El Donk, The Kissers, The Shivers, Mae Rae, Aaron Scholz, Chalemange, Sleeping in the Aviary, The Shabelles, Sunspot and Electric Automatic.

Don't think that I didn't notice that I'm not in your top friends. I wrote it down in my little book, and there it will stay until you do something about it.

Do you really want that?

Feb 11 2008 7:51 PM

The American National International Movement for Ailment Loss (ANIMAL) has just released a health warning suggesting that that this Friday (Feb 15) million’s of Americans will be suffering from post-valentines day/shitty weather funkadelics.

Experts with multiple graduate degrees recommend a heavy dose of alcohol and kick ass rock music.

Lucky for you this Friday (Feb 15) the Annex (1206 Regent) has just what you need!

EL VALIENTE “haunts like the lonesome cry of a cowboy's ghost” – The Onion

THE MOMENT “Building upon harder post-punk sounds …, but giving you more backbeat to shake your ass to” Punknews.org

PROJECTION PEOPLE “a bit like a Chuck Palahniuk novel in music form” – Dane 101

REVOLVING DOORS “seems to sound as huge or as sneaky as it wishes”-The Onion

All these bands have Myspace pages, so check them out for yourself.

Cover is 5$ and show starts at 9:30......hope to see you there
