Andy and Kirk started this project band two years after the collapse of their previous racket, "Danger Prone Daphne". Their first drummer was, Chuck Weidenbach. Chuck lasted two rehearsals with the band and suddenly quit because of the smell in Kirk's basement. Kirk said he wasn’t going to radon test his house just at the whim of some drummer. Then Jonathon Argue entered the picture. Jonathon performed two shows with The German Art Students at O'Cayz Corral.
Because G.A.S. was fortunate enough to open for The Bomboras in April of 1998, Jonathon decided to move on as their T-shirt vendor. We still hear from him time to time. In March of 1998 Annelies Howell joined the band. She said the UW Memorial Union wouldn’t let her play her Gretsch, Tennessean at open mike night, so she would find a proper musical outlet that would. In June of 1998, Randy Ballwhan, a local music scribe joined as their final permanent drummer. He said he was so moved by the music of G.A.S. he couldn’t imagine playing for any other band and was about to throw his drum kit into Lake Mendota. Luckily for Randy, Kirk happened to be on the lake with his pontoon boat and saved Randy's kit just in time for them to play at Rob Jacob and Kristi Marks's East Johnson Street apartment. G.A.S. was solidified at this point, pursuing the rigors of a career in rock music. Oh yes, they have had their share of accolades, tacit approval, odd stares and broken strings, but they are forever committed to you, the listener.
