Spirit of David, the creative, motivating and talented holy hip-hop artist “Spirit of David/SOD” was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He has been influenced in music since the age of 12 through his mother and uncles; who song in local choirs and R&B groups in the 70’s. SOD first performance was in front of 300 cheering junior high school classmates, that’s when the passion of composing vivid real life subjects and putting them to a beat came to be his way of expressing his feelings. In 1990, David was drafted by the Detroit Tigers as a catcher, however he chose to follow his mother’s wishes and use his football scholarship to further his education at Central State University (HBCU). Throughout the years, his love for music always remained which caused him to also pursue rap music. He has shared the stage with Run D.M.C., Doug E. Fresh, MC Breed, The Geto Boys, and JaRule. With knowledge of Christ and going to church as a youngster, his personal relationship with Christ evolved in June 2006. SOD was transformed by the power of the Holy Ghost, he accepted and dedicated his life to Christ and is using the talent God gave him for the kingdom of God.
Instrument of God, he is known as Minister Jomel Powell or “Instrument of God/ IOG” born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Although he didn’t grow up in church, he learned about God in his youth. As a young child he became fascinated with the rap industry. The music kind of raised him in some areas, because it influenced how he acted and the words he chose to use. IOG began his journey of rapping as a teenager with his group Bettah Made with Black Wasp Entertainment. His life transformed by attending a service at Christian R.O.A.D. Ministries after have many struggles and attacks. It is here where God called him to preach and rediscovered his musical gift. Detroit Music Award winning gospel artist, Sonnie Day gave him an opportunity to use his gift the right way, for the ministry not entertainment. During a late night dream, God gave him the name IOG (Instrument of God). IOG is adamant about utilizing his gift to win souls for Christ.
It is when God gave Elder Charleston Day a vision the end of 2006 to put these two talented warriors together to form The Gideon Crew. It is the goal of this ministry to reach the minds of a generation of people young and old whose hip-hop influences has caused them to cater to the music rather than establish a relationship with God.
