harmonic dissonance, fingernails on a blackboard, choirs of angels, whistling kettles, thirds, fifths and eights, shifting sands, lollipops, configurations.
Autumn 2005, the leaves are turning to gold, there's a chill in the air and Trish Young contacts her friend Jodi Phillis with a proposition. The objective: a fledgling, a fresh direction, sparkling songs for a bright new millennium. Late into the winter nights in a frenzy of melody the girls nurture their creation. Ideas spill and tumble, a flair for the unexpected makes itself manifest, and in late spring a five-track ep, Lalalala emerges from its chrysalis. Jodi and Trish unite in a rare harmonical twinness and invite you, the listener, on a thrilling ride to their multinote world.
And then they play some shows and all the eastern seaboard of Australia is invited to witness the barely contained chaos that is The Girls From The Clouds. They tell jokes, they wear strange socks, some of their stage patter is unintelligible, and they get out of time with their backing cd. Nobody knows what could happen next. A singing drummer called Tim Oxley joins the fray, and adds beats and even more harmonies to the already bursting equation.
The five songs of Lalalala, startling in their brilliance and originality, are only the beginning. Expect great things from this most exciting of partnerships. The airwaves are crackling, the soundwaves are humming, and you'll soon find yourself singing along with songs of seduction, rebellion, and working in a bookshop. If The Girls From The Clouds can't make your dreams come true, who can?
Sorry listeners, The Girls From The Clouds have split. Trish and Jodi wish to thank their friends and fans for all the support and encouragement they received. I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
Well, that depends- they say in troubled times fashion leans toward camouflage patterns etc- can't come at that myself- true, i'm more yer 'Gitmo' / activist orange kind of guy. As for the humble orange itself- nope, not really - limes / tequila - no contest...well- you did ask. Hasta luego amigas.
Hi girls, just want to say you are so inspiring, the first gig i ever went to was you guys playing in enmore many moons ago and you rocked ! Thanks for all the years of listening pleasure :)
Gidday ... sorry to see on your site that TGFTC have split. Dang. I'm sure you have more musical irons in the fire. I used to play geetar in a shoegaze band called Deep Star Six. I think we played with youse Clouds once at the Annandale (with Lustre 4 ... have you checked out what Lara Meyerratken is doing now? She plays as El May; she's really tops). Anyway, keep us posted!
Awwww C'mon, nobody likes brussels sprouts! Thanks for adding me again, my old page got deleted. Moral: never put up a blog criticising scientologists!
You girls are awesome...just wanted to say you are masters (or should that be mistresses) of the sweetest of sweet harmonies. But you prob'ly already know that don't you?
thanks for the add.and "House Of The Sun" is my favourite tune! i'm enjoying your CD single and live songs from your website.yes, and i'm waiting for your next release :) best wishes.
Hi, thanks for the add. Am a latecomer to your music but am very much liking what I hear. 'Never Say Forever' has one of those melodies that makes me glad to be alive.
Hell yes you're invited! I'm working all this week but next week I'm off, & not working either ... on the 27th we're off to Narooma for a few days then down to mum's in Canberra, then back home on New Years Eve cause I have to work from Wed to Fri. Then we're heading to the Central Coast on the 6th. I'm sure we can squeeze you in somewhere there! Come over on Boxing Day if you insist on truly authentic Christmas pud...
Yes you can see it hon, it's on my ear but in a weird spot. Right where my glasses rub on it every second of the day. Should have put a bit of thought into it but oh well. When are you coming over for Christmas pud?
