Bio
This is a fan page. I am not in the GITS, I just have the utmost respect for their music, the members, and their gift of true music with guts. They are a phenomenal band that deserve to have a page on Myspace and are influential beyond words........................................................................................................ Story: THE GITS formed in 1986 in Ohio and moved to Seattle three years later, just as the grunge phenomenon was becoming predominant in the region. Fronted by charismatic, powerhouse vocalist Mia Zapata, THE GITS further consisted of guitarist Joe Spleen, bass player Matthew Fred Dresdner and drummer Steve Moriarty. Despite an insular disposition, THE GITS eventually became the hub of a rather large music and social sub-scene. The group was perhaps the first Seattle underground band to successfully tour Europe without the aid of either a record label or booking agency - which they accomplished illegally, relying on the support of European squatter and musician friends. During their four-year tenure in Seattle THE GITS gained a reputation for an uncompromising vision and a bluesy street punk aesthetic. Passion, a strong ironic sense, and the intensity of their live shows earned THE GITS a devoted following throughout the West Coast until the murder of singer Zapata in 1993. The ex-members of the band have recently compiled a posthumous album entitled Seafish Louisville which contains unreleased studio tracks, remixed versions of the band's early recordings and live material recorded in Seattle. Surprisingly, this album is perhaps the most consistent and essential GITS release. Seafish Louisville captures the dark and troubled soul of a dynamic band in their prime, and is available now on San Francisco's Broken Rekids. The Gits have also remixed, remastered and re-released their first two albums, Frenching The Bully, and Enter The Conquering Chicken. A documentary film is in production and news media around the world has covered the arrest and conviction of the man responsible for killing Gits vocalist Mia Zapata. .. width="425" height="350">..............> .. .. ..MyGen.. ..Profile Generator.. .. .. .. ..MyGen.. ..Profile Generator.. .... width="425" height="350">..............> -

The Gits movie on DFP tonight, 07/02/08
Easily one of the best bands to ever exist was The Gits. Fronted by the ultra-talented, and commanding prescence of vocalist Mia Zapata, she sang over-the-top of a trio of highly skilled and powerful musicians who's interplay was akin to that of a well oiled machine.
Every show was a artistic cathartic explosion that had no peers...except for the others created by this same nexus.
A few days short of 15 years ago, Mia's life was taken away, and many, many others lives would never be the same.
Yet the music of Mia & The Gits lives on and inspires fans both old and new, and now a documentary movie about that magical time in which those songs were created and displayed is about to open and will turn even more folks onto a band whose every song was encore worthy, even in a set cut far too short.
Tonight on Drinking From Puddles I'll be joined by The Gits drummer & the film's Co-Producer Steve Moriarty (and possibly bassist Matt Dresdner) to talk about the opening of the film...and the band that would be King...
