Asher Gray and Richard Galling hail from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1999 these Midwesterners, inspired by the French Touch scene, began producing and DJing together. Early influences ranged from Cassius, Daft Punk, Fred Falke, Alan Braxe, and Dj Falcon to Dimitri From Paris and Etinne de Crecy. As the years passed the duo's musical interest and repertoire widened, and they began to acquire a more eclectic mix. A “DIY” electro sound with nods to popular and underground music of the 1970’s and 1980’s, which heavily influenced the direction their production. In 2005 the duo released "Blast" which began to define the early characteristics of their sound.
The Glamour's music, apart from their historical influences, became deeply rooted in the Midwest dance party scene. Dirty clubs, dive bars, and sweaty house parties, provided the band with a perfect place to throw events and play music. This scene ultimately became the subject matter for tracks like "Kidz Night" and "Respect The Party". Capturing the attitude of the time, the carefree, have fun mentality, represented the atmosphere at their shows. This can further be witnessed on their debut Fly By Night EP on Calamity Jane Recordings.
The duo is now in the process of working on their debut album, where they can be seen guiding their cross-genre influences into a more focused place. There has been a bit of a departure from their earlier DIY sound, as the work now leading up to the LP has become much more historically conscious. Here you will hear The Glamour starting to make more specific references to classic Techno and House, with further nods to Disco and Funk. Many of the things that inspired them in the very beginning to start producing electronic music, now seem to be taking precedent, in their more matured sound.
