THE BEGINNING
Formed in August 2007, The Gloves have been heating things up in Lawrence, Ks. Featuring many songs that are a blast from the past as well as some brave new original tunes, The Gloves have begun to impact the Lawrence music scene in a big way!
HOLY GROUND
"This whole project started on a lark as a jam session in Andy Timmons' famous East Lawrence living room practice studio, where a long list of great Lawrence bands were hammered to perfection," says singer and rhythm guitarist Richard Hougen.
"I honestly was a little apprehensive about even attending this session. I mean, I was excited about having been invited, but it had been years since I played with a group. I had seen Andy play in other projects like his Pink Floyd tribute band "Freud", and knew I was walking into a situation where I would be expected to perform at a higher level."
A GOOD FIT
"What came out of that night was simply amazing! It was like we had played together for years before that night, yet many of the musicians present that evening I had barely met or never known, so I was pleasantly surprised when things went so well," Hougen explained.
MANY DIFFERENT STYLES
All of The Gloves come from different places in music.
John Cutler (BASS/VOCALS) and
Randy Fitzgerald (DRUMS) represent the punk rock scene and played in bands like Tenderloin and Joe Worker respectively, and more recently together in The Klusterfux.
Mike Fitzgerald (DRUMS) is the legendary drummer from the well known country punk Lawrence favorite The Lonesome Houndogs and also is featured in Uncle Dirty Toes among others.
Chris McMahon (LEAD GUITAR) is one of the Lawrence area's best kept secrets, having sharpened his skills to a fine edge with a Topeka based rock/metal project known as "Phantom Enemy".
Andy Timmons (ACOUSTIC GUITAR and VOCALS) is the master of the obscure, playing in bands like Cocktail Wieners and more recently The Rinkles. Andy brings warmth and wonderful flavor to the stage.
Richard Hougen (RHYTHM GUITAR and VOCALS) also played in legendary Lawrence projects such as DirtWeed and Trout 66 sharing a potent dose of the psychedelic and is heavily under the influence of music by Grateful Dead and groove rocker J.J. Cale.
