Jesse Mangum opened The Glow Studio in his hometown of Jacksonville, FL in January of 2007, determined to turn his obsession with aural-tinkering into a modest career (of sorts).
Armed with an entire decade of sonic experimentation and a refined recording setup, Mangum spent the first half of the year recording (Black Kids, Gospel Music, Chelsea Saddler, Shitagoddamn, Richelieu), mixing (Larry Mangum, Chase Capo), and mastering (all of the aforementioned).
In late 2007, The Glow’s signature sound fell on international ears with the release of the Wizard of Ahhhs EP by Black Kids. The EP’s "distinctive aesthetic" earned it an 8.4 and "Best New Music" rating from Pitchfork Media, not to mention enthusiastic reviews from Rolling Stone, NME, Vice, and nearly every indie-music blog on the planet!
Before relocating to Athens, GA in January of 2008, Mangum recorded tracks by Jacksonville bands Buffalo Tears , Bayonet, and Mending Wall, which he has been busy mixing and mastering for release on Glow Worms Vol. 1, a FREE compilation to be released in February March AVAILABLE NOW! (also featuring re-mixed and re-mastered cuts from earlier recordings made at The Glow).
