Well what can I say.......The Golgi Apparatus played mostly in Sussex from Summer 2001-2008. We had a great time and mutated considerably from an acoustic trio to a quartet playing slow, melancholic, jazz tinged, vocally harmonised songs, all looking uncomfortable on stage to the final quintet, often with a guest, playing electric, uptempo, silly songs, featuring wild costumery and vaudeville chaos stage performance featuring a striptease on a unicycle! We decided after 7 years to call it a day for several reasons, too many gigs in front of 4 or 5 people, difficulty in the name being remembered and wanting to write new songs. But, my friends, a fragment of the band are currently in negotiations with some other chaps to form a new 6 piece band with more stage performance, a more memorable name, a few Golgi songs thrown in for good measure and a whole lot of new ones. Hopefully, it will be up and running by November or December. Watch this space.
BACKGROUND....
The Golgi Apparatus were a bunch of multi-instrumentalist all of whom sung to some degree or another. We dissected every genre we come across and mix up the bits and see what comes out. The result could be described as interesting if not bordering on ridiculous. We specialised in songs about facial hair and people we know, played on a peculiar mix of instruments. The live show includes a STRIPTEASE on a UNICYCLE, costumes, props and lashings of horseplay. It has been said that the stage looks like a JUNK SHOP and our performance has been described as "ANARCHIC WIZARDRY".
Originally formed in the Summer of 2001 the band had 3 main line ups. Both Martin and Richard emigrated. The first line up recorded a CD of debut recordings on 2002 and then the 9 track cd 'PA-PA SMJEŠKO' in Nov 2003, and the second the 10 track CD 'GRUNTLED AHD WHELMED' in Jan 2005 and Jan 2006. The final line-up recorded 3 tracks in July 2007 and 4 tracks (as yet unmixed) in February 08. Noise making devices employed included 12 and 6 string acoustic and electric guitars, banjo, djembe, shakers, drums, bass, nose flute, bagpipes, tenor horn, toys, sound effects, ukelele, hosepipe, football rattle, recorders, teapot, kazoos, whistles and sirens.
We're on Facebook and YouTube too!

Say it aint so, guys. I have some great pics from The Airport Club lurking around somewhere which I'll post soon. Lead bagpipe is sorely needed in any beat combo. R.I.P. :(

cheers for the add. Unfortunately didn't see you at Bognor, but was immediately told that I should 'cos you're right up my alley as it were.I was told you were even more ramshackle than Victims of Nuisance (the band I'm still just about in) to see why I was pointed in your direction. Great stuff. Love to play a gig with you some time. Also excited by the last chance rodeo.
