The Good Ship's Blurbs |
About me:
We are at 289 Kilburn High Road, in between The Tricycle and The Luminaire in the richest cultural 50 metres in London.
Born on 2nd September 2005, The Good Ship is an unusual vessel. It is more of a music venue than anything but on Friday and Saturday nights it turns into a nightclub and during the week when the bands finish its a late bar til 2am. We put on all sorts of other stuff though including top drawer stand up comedy for a stupidly cheap price every Monday, burlesque, film nights, local designer fashion sales, art exhibitions. In fact we will put on anything that we like the sound of, give us your suggestions. Oh, and we try and sell stuff that other music venues do not, so a nice selection of wines and real ale in tap and bottle. We have a 100 cd juke box which I must get round to chaniging more often but it has great stuff on it like Tom Vek, Stevie Wonder, The Specials, Interpol and a load of Nuggets and Rough Trade compilations.
We like all sorts of music so play all sorts too. Expect to hear bands of an indie/punk/funk/electro/antifolk/profolk well almost anything goes really as long as it is good. On Friday we are more usually more dance oriented so house, funk etc will be on the menu. Saturday is usually a bit more versatile; a bit dancey/ a bit indie. We'll never play that ridiculous modern rnb/garage stuff.
If you do not know Kilburn then get along, it is fast becoming one of London's better night time locations. The excellent Luminaire a couple of doors away also hosts some outstanding bands and the area is full of pubs putting on all sorts of stuff. The Westbury has some outstanding DJ line ups, Osteria Del Ponte does the best pizzas you may taste at mucho cheapness price, The Cock puts on great variety, Powers Acoustic Room does what it says on the sign and The North London Tavern has all sorts of good stuff too.
Opening hours:
Sun - Thurs till 2am
Fri - Sat till 4am. Usually at weekends it is free entry before the bands start and a fiver after. Check in what's on.
BANDS...do us a favour eh and pop us a message rather than just adding us. We like a chat so if you wanna play then get in touch. We will not bite. We treat bands and promoters well and try not to have hire charges for bands to play like most venues in London. Andrew from The Special Needs (RIP) gives us a nice namecheck on www.nme.com/news/the-needs/21831
