" A more general and oft-cited quote defines a granfalloon as "a proud and meaningless association of human beings."
The Granfalloons is a new band out of Georgia. The members are Matthew Williams (guitar and vocals), Tommy Somerville (keys and vocals), AJ Adams (pedal steel, lap steel, and guitar), and Seth Hendershot (drums and vocals). Matthew, Seth, and AJ are all former members of the national touring band Blueground Undergrass. Tommy is a member of the jazz/ latin ensemble from Atlanta GA known as Squat. Together they are joined on stage by Neil Fountain on bass (The Fiji Mariners and Rogers, Herring, Sipe, and Fountain). Fiddler David Blackmon often joins The Granfalloons on the live stage as well as in the studio. Collectively the band has played thousands of shows for thousands of people.
The sound the band creates is a sophisticated blend of Americana, Alt. Country, Indie rock, and Good Ole Southern Vibes. The songs are tastefully structured and radio ready, but written with enough room to breathe in a live setting. This allows the players to showcase their individual talents and create a truly dynamic show for audiences worldwide.
The goal of the band is to write great songs to record and perform live. With over one hundred recording credits each the band is no stranger to the studio. In addition, members of the band have appeared at many major festivals from the east coast to the west coast of the U.S. as well as internationally in countries such as Germany, India, Holland, Mexico, and Japan. All the members have performed at a number of music venues across the U.S. and gained large fan bases respectively.
Currently The Granfalloons are wrapping up their full-length debut "Penny Farthing" at The Troubador Den Studio in Athens GA. Penny Farthing is scheduled for release in the fall of summer of 2009. The band is promoted by Moonstruck Promotions and is seeking label and booking representation.
