The Grassholes have cycled through a number of musicians over the years (five bassists!), but we've settled down for the time being into a four-piece (maybe five) bluegrass outfit-sometimes traditional, sometimes not-with some originals and some songs that are older than dirt.
We currently comprise Seth Doyle on mandolin, Sam Pfeifle on lead guitar, Field Rider on banjo, and Laura Jumper on fiddle, all playing around one microphone in traditional bluegrass fashion with vocals from all parties.
After a one-year monthly residency at Silly’s in Portland back in 2003, the Grassholes have moved on to play the St. Lawrence Arts and Cultural Center, the Liberal Cup, the Poland Spring Music Festival, Run of the Mill, the White Heart, the Center for Cultural Exchange (RIP), Local 188, Bull Feeney’s, Empire Dine and Dance, the Dogfish on Free Street, oh, all kinds of places, and the WIB Bluegrass Festival too, with bands like the Hot Day at the Zoo, Muddy Marsh Ramblers, Jerks of Grass, the Precious Cupcakes, the Mutineers, and the Mammals.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
