sojourn [SOH-juhrn; so-JURN] intransitive verb;
To stay as a temporary resident; to dwell for a time.
The Great Sojourn are a pop-band in the classic sense of the word - melodic and memorable, but drawing on the roots of folk tradition and meaningful song-writing. Reclaiming the 3-minute format as their own, 'Inbetween' is the band's debut single - instantly singable, but without feeling like you've heard it all before.
The rhythm section of Jon Caws (Drums) & James Le Tissier (Bass) lay down an infectious and toe-tapping groove that underpins Jon Brombley's intimate vocals and lively acoustic guitar playing. From the staccato opening riff through to the harmony-laden chorus this song is intentionally radio-friendly, reminiscent of acts such as Whitest Boy Alive or a more earthy Maroon 5.
The Story So Far...
Formed in 2009, this acoustic three-piece were formed around singer-songwriter Jon Brombley, however once joined by James Le Tissier on Bass and Jon Caws on Drums (They did briefly consider a fourth member, but couldn't find anyone else who's name begain with 'J') things began to take on a whole new dimension.
Not content to be simply a backing band - arrangements were re-crafted, dynamics changed and new tracks written. Jon's predominantly folk-based material was brought to life with influences across the genres from indie-rock through to classic soul records. The aim of these sessions was simple - to write songs for mass-appeal but to communicate them in an interesting and creative way.
Though musically diverse in their tastes, the boys are united in their love for good-quality pop music. Taking their benchmarks from bands such as Fleetwood Mac, they follow in the great tradition of British song-writing - combining the instant appeal of hook-laden tunes with a lyrical depth. As with their name, The Great Sojourn are band who write unashamedly about the big themes of the journey through life.
Inspired in equal parts by the thrills of the city, the quiet reflection of the countryside and the frustration of the suburbs, their songs confront the realities of growing up, but with an ever-hopeful quality. Whether that's dealing with the beauty of friendships where you are accepted just as you are (Blue Like Jazz) or the pain of finding people aren't quite as reliable as you thought (Inbetween).
Following successful London shows, The Great Sojourn are playing a number of intimate 'Front-Room' dates in houses across the UK throughout November as well as the more usual venue gigs as they look to bring their music to a wider audience. The single has already gained student radio play, and will undoubtedly continue to grow.
The Great Sojourn are continuing to book gigs in both front rooms and venues. For booking info please contact hello (at) thegreatsojourn (dot) com

The candle sits in shadow, as I light it's wick to say. That I am thinking about you, in a very special way. The flame it shines brightly, and breaks apart the dark. In my room, and deep inside me, just as the very sparks. Within your eyes in moonlight, within your precious smile. Within your undenying love, you go the extra mile. To make sure I am happy, so I give to you my friend. My love and dedication, I'll be here until the end. Glowing so ever-brighter, than in the past two years. Glowing so enlightened, a courage beyond fear. Growing so ever-wiser, experiencing extremes. No longer to be shadowed, a perfect truth at ease. Dancing within the darkness, in the shining stars. Dreaming within daylight, denying any scars. Smiling so ever-brightly, a new reality. Feeling so ever-better, the aura surrounding. I have become myself, I have become light. Becoming so comfortable, within the dead of night. Nothing to erase me, or what I do believe. Nothing overtakes me, worthy to receive. The love and care so given, so cherished and so true. The colors now so beautiful, with long forgotten blue. Now truly deserving, and receiving all the same. And when I am to pass away, remember in my name.
