Drums, Bass, Guitar.... Scott, Anthony, and Sean... Respectively.
Influences
The Great Unwashed is a New York City based Rock trio who have been captivating the Staten Island music scene. In addition to their constant local shows, “TGU” has been earning new fans with every gig played in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Guitarist and singer Sean Kuhl, drummer Scott Jacobi, and bassist Anthony Scuderi became a three piece late in 2007; after a fourth band member left the group. Honing their new sound as a trio, the members of The Great Unwashed are proud descendants of their heroes: Fugazi, Hüsker Dü, and Dinosaur Jr. Singer Sean Kuhl’s shout/ talk vocals connect casual storytelling with frustrated cynicism amongst the band’s signature melodic refrains. Jacobi and Scuderi hold down tight rhythmic grooves and make light of frequent time signature changes, while Kuhl’s riotous yet precise guitar solos define this ambitious Rock outfit.
Sounds Like
One plane crashing into another plane... while Sean sings whatever makes sense at the moment! and Scott smacking skins (unmitigatedly?)... and Scuds in his own world driving bass lines home to Jesus.
Ben Johnson, Staten Island Advance, 5.17.2007, on both the previous and upcoming TGU show @ Martini Red:
"The Great Unwashed played a recent show at Martini Red that was so loud and relentless, it's a surprise the Hot Fuzz didn't come and break up the party. But what are you supposed to do when your mixed-meter rock and scream-singing is conducive to the raw power of a wall of sound? Turn down? Yeah, right.
Saturday, the band's going to press its luck with another show, joined by local hard-rocking outfits Farewell Division and The Ghost Armada. With the help of Martini's resident music-masher DJ Dave Elliott, it should be another solid chance to exercise your music trivia knowledge, get some use out of your ear plugs and feed that insatiable appetite for blistering rock 'n' roll. Great Unwashed guitarist Sean Kuhl says the band's got some free demos to hand out as well.
Free show and free demos? Now all you need to do is try and sweet talk the bartender into some free drinks. Good luck with that one."
We're people in the industry/scene who understand what musicians and fans want. We're creating a place where music in the most important thing. Remember when Myspace was a cool place for band to be discovered? Now in 2009 it's basically nothing but bands adding bands! Not to mention tons of fans have moved on to facebook because of all the band spam! Yeah that's right, sorry to tell you kids, but the industry knows your numbers are the result of "friend blasters" and spending day and night doing random add's. No one is impressed! So, what will be the site that Facebook defectors and music fans search when they want to hear some music?

I'm hitting the road in a couple of weeks to raise money for War Child, Coast-to-coast – 50 cities – ALL PROCEEDS TO WARCHILD. Why? 66% of all war victims are CHILDREN. Shocked like me? War Child helps these children that have been affected by war. Check out the new blog – the whole story is up there. Love to have you be a part of it.
You’ll find a Blog, Tour page and a Bio page. I’ll be blogging daily from the road.
Hey Great Unwashed, my name is Brendan and we're friends on Myspace but for whatever reason I haven't heard your stuff until now. It's really great. I think if you guys are interested we should play a show together. I think bands such as ours should try to get shows going in the area. Send me a message if you're down.
Hello: Love it or hate it, but please post comments about this story on SILive. com/AWE. To be blunt: I want to prove there is an audience for coverage of the under-40 arts & entertainment scene on Staten Island. Some people in the newspaper industry think this is a lost cause -- I don't.
