About me: The Logger loves trees. The Protester loves trees. The Firefighter loves trees. The Star loves trees. The Tree Sitter loves trees. The Executive loves trees. The Waitress loves trees. Nothing is ever clear cut in writer/director Mark Leiren-Young's film about logging and the environment. These seven inter-linking monologues from different perspectives on the logging industry and the environment will challenge you, as each character transcends type and clichés forcing you to think and feel outside your skin. Will you side with the Logger or the Protester? The Waitress or the Firefighter? None of them or all of them?
Jarringly confrontational yet relentlessly passionate and funny, The Green Chain examines how the conflict between economics and the environment is defining, dividing and destroying communities in Canada and around the world. Yet within all of this conflict there is a driving need to listen and understand why there is no simple solution. The isolation of each character within their environment demonstrates how each is a cloistered yet dependent unit. Yes, like part of a chain. Like the one that environmentalists use to attach themselves to trees and also akin to the kind that saws through them at an alarming rate. Now the real question is do you love trees? Because stars Brendan Fletcher (Tideland), Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica) and Babz Chula (7 Times Lucky) clearly do.
NOTHING IS EVER CLEAR CUT.

2007 on the Zest Radio Show. This is word association. We hope you find
it interesting and thought provoking.
If you have walked in the heart of the Greenwood and have bathed in the light of its living force remember what you have felt; and whenever you pass a tree whether it stands alone in a wilderness of human making or in the depth of woodland, give a moment of your time to listen to its voice. For in many parts of the land the trees are dying only the hearts that know something of the true wisdom can save them. (Anon)
Time to welcome in the Summer, health and happiness.
