The Greening's mission statement is to push pop music to new frontiers through their blend of accessible experimentation. Combining memorable hooks, strong melodies and cascading vocal harmonies, the band craft instantly memorable songs. However, the radio friendly nature of the songwriting disguises its underlying complexity. Surprise bridges, unexpected arrangements/time signatures, and well thought out production all unite to enhance the compositions in an integrated fashion. The ideology behind their sound evolves from an appreciation of the psychedelic movement, forgotten 70s art rock, classic 60s pop, and the ultimate desire to combine elements of all of these with a psychotic injection of punk energy. At shows, people are often up and dancing within a few numbers thriving off the bands raw enthusiasm for the music they love. Recording-wise, The Greening have always sought to combine as many styles as possible in collagist fashion. As can be heard on their first album, After Shoal Parlor, the variety of stylings take the listener across a landscape of music history, landing them squarely in the twilight of music the world is waking up to. The familiar is there to be heard, but in a way that is neither nostalgic nor retro. Whether it be through a vastly layered pop arrangement (such as on the single, "Cry") or the more glammed-out, amped-up "Situation," The Greening seek to use all sonic palettes to help further develop their music and sound. The aforementioned debut album, After Shoal Parlor, was released on their own label, Zairecords, in October of 2003. It was recorded at John Vanderslice's renowned Tiny Telephone Studios, an Analog Haven that's been the home of past recordings by Death Cab and Spoon. You can find it HERE on this page, Paypal friendly checkout and everything, for $11.50 including shipping anywhere in the US/$14 shipping anywhere else in the world, also including shipping. It's also at the Haight Street Amoeba Records if you're from SF and want to Buy It In A Store. With capitolizations. Since the release of ASP, The Greening have continued to play shows and peddle ASP to the masses, all the while writing and learning new material and plotting behind the scenes on how to go about getting their own recording space set up. After endless delays on the road to Realizing That Dream, The Greening are spending early 2008 to early 2009 recording 36 songs that will be whittled down to two 12-song albums that will see release in 2009, many of which will be available to download here. The first of these two follow-ups will feature live favorites "(She's So) Electric," "Black Lotus" and "Misty Creek K.O." and has a tentative release date of March and tentative title of The Ancient Night. The second has a tentative release date of October, and will feature live staples "A Victory?," "Leningrad, Slips and Knots," "Dualk" and the still as-yet-untitled "Dirge." Please visit this page frequently for the onslaught of sonic delights, as many of them will be available here only for a limited time!

OKAY! THEY WERE AWESOME. Today Tomorrow and Lazy Bitch are totally my fave out of the 4 new ones, but all of them were grrreeeaaat! Ur totally rite, Misty Creek is totally rockin, but i cant help to fall for the awesomeness sounds of Today Tomorrow! It needs nothing more and definately nothing less! And Victoria is a totally perfect cooool mellow song, it totally puts me into a day-dreaming trance. When i listened to it my mind was stuck in some Beatles- retro colourful magnifisant world, lol. That song gives new meanings to "Naturally High" =D. And i love Lazy Bitch, especially the random singing of BA BABA BABA BA-BA, and so on! Thats actually really weird cuz i had almost the exact same tune stuck in my head all week, without ever hearing the song til now....can u say "creepy"..?!...... well anywayz....I'll let u get back to whatever u were doing before u ran into this long ass comment of compliments and TOTAL KUDOS!!! Im biting my nails just waiting for more new tracks! Talk to u soon dude!
