The Groovy Cellar, benannt nach einem Londoner Club der frühen 80er Jahre, dürfte mittlerweile zu einer der dienstältesten Berliner Indie-Mod-Britpop-Bands zählen. Gegründet 1991, hat die Gruppe um Sänger und Songwriter Olaf Schumacher im Laufe der Jahre diverse Veröffentlichungen vorgelegt, zuletzt 2008 die Single „When You Fly Away“ auf dem Berliner Independent-Label Firestation Records. Live teilte sich die Band die Bühne bereits mit so unterschiedlichen Künstlern wie Cleaners From Venus, Ian Brown (Stone Roses), Television Personalities oder Fehlfarben.

In their latest offerings The Groovy Cellar 7? - When You Fly Away / April Moon is definitely a must have and harkens back to the wonderful Soul Mod sounds of The Jam and The Truth (in the early years) and is a single that pure POP with both sides brilliant so you will have trouble figuring out which is the A side.
