A product of the Digicel Rising Star II, Jamaica's talent TV show, and now the youngest artistes at Shocking Vibes, 'En-Q', formerly known simply as 'Q' has been busy since departing from Rising Star, making sure their presence is felt in the music industry.
The members at a glance: From Left to Right...
Peter Edwards (EQ) cousin to Kalvin and the alto of the group is known as the pretty boy in the group. He was raised in Spanish Town and attended the same school as his cousin Kalvin. Peter is known as the jovial one and enjoys performing, writing and playing football. He also perfected his musical skills by singing with choirs and groups.
Kalvin Tahal (TQ) known for his high pitched voice, is the first tenor in the group. Born and raised in Spanish town, he is a past student of the St. Catherine High School. He inherited his musical heritage from his father who was once a member of a singing group. Growing up Kalvin honed his singing skills by singing with groups and choirs. He enjoys writing songs and composing harmonies. When he’s not busy in the studio, you can find him at any one of his other passions, football or cricket.
Damarah Danni (DQ) another product of Spanish Town is the second tenor in the group. He attended the St. Jago High School. Damarah can be called the reggaeaholic in the group as he spends most of his time listening to reggae and creating reggae songs. Known as the humble one, he spends his leisure time reading, meditating and playing football.
The Group entered Rising star in 2005 and did fairly well but was unfortunately voted off in the fifth position. En-Q caught the attention of Shocking Vibes Production director and a judge in the competition, Clyde McKenzie, who signed the group to the Shocking Vibes family. Their first recording was entitled “Q is for Christmas” which was produced and arranged by Chalice keyboardist Ervin “Allah” Lloyd received significant air play both on radio and television. Their single “Gimme a minute” which is on the popular “Fort Knox” rhythm is heavily rotated. They have recorded songs for a number of producers namely; Prendy of Shocking Vibes, Scatta and Pyrana. Their performance of songs from such groups as Boyz to Men and Chicago have earned them rave reviews. They have also performed on a number of stage shows across the island, including; Beenie Man Summer Sizzle, Teen Splash, Mountain Dew Stunt Fest and number of others.
When not in the studio the group spend time working on their harmonies with their musical director “Allah. En-Q is versatile, at ease with soulful ballads as they are with dancehall tracks. Their popularity with female members of the public seems boundless and these products of St. Catherine are bound for big things.
