Bio
'The Halliard' was formed by Dave Moran in the early 60s. Dave founded Chelmsford Folk Club in 1962, where he met Geoff Harris & a little later, Nigel Paterson. They became the resident group at the club & needed a name. 'The Halliard' was chosen because they liked singing sea shanties. By 1964, the club & 'The Halliard' were prospering & a decision was made to turn professional. Geoff decided that the life of a pro folkie was not for him, so a replacement had to be found. Nigel remembered a school friend who played guitar. His name was Nic Jones. Nic was working as a lifeguard at a swimming pool & did not need to be asked twice to join the group! Between 1964 & 1968 'The Halliard' toured the UK, building an enviable reputation based on their original material & dynamic performances. The strain of almost continual touring took its toll & the group disbanded in the autumn of 1968. Dave went into youth work. Nigel trained as a music teacher & Nic.....well Nic went on to become one of the most respected & admired singer/guitarists on the UK folk scene. After a gap of over 35 years, Dave, Nic & Nigel were 'reunited' via the internet & produced a book of all their songs & an accompanying CD & in June 2005, a proper reunion took place at Nic's house in York. November 2006 saw the release of 'The Last Goodnight!' a long-lost demo album recorded in 1968 & never released.
