British-style pop rock songs grounded in Pinoy sensibilities result in The Haneps, a three-piece pop rock outfit that relies on lyrical and musical hooks to delight listeners and snag fans in the local music scene.
Influenced by British music icons The Beatles, The Kinks, Cream, The Who, Radiohead, Blur, Coldplay, Tears for Fears, and Morrisey (among others), and Filipino acts such as The Eraserheads, as well as their own contemporaries, the result is a happy union of Britpop and Pinoy Rock that's a beautifully inconsistent garage sound. The result is "garage pop", a diverse range of catchy tunes—experimental, yet always flavored on a “pop” appeal; a smorgasbord of sounds that is instantly distinctive and memorable at the same time. Think of 60s-style psychedelic rock mixed with 90's alternative and straightforward rock n’ roll and you’ll get the idea.
With their own versions of cover songs from varied genres such as Help by the Beatles, Pinacolada by Rupert Holmes, and Suedehead by Morrisey, listening to a performance from The Haneps is like taking a colorful trip inside the many pictures of a photo album–-surreal yet curiously familiar.
The Haneps' current line up have been playing since early 2005 in venues such as Cafe Saguijo, 6 Underground, Gweilo’s, Purple Haze, Club Halo, Corik’s, Alky’s, Peligro, Brannigans, Kolumn, Vida de Malate, Al’s Bar and Freedom Bar, as well as in events, such as the 1st anniversary of FU Magazine, the FU Magazine Fashion Show/Concert at the Plaza Rajah Sulayman, Fete dela Musique 2006 in the SM Mall of Asia, the LUK4 The Million culminating concert in Metrowalk, and private parties.
The Haneps has been featured in FU Magazine and Anthem Magazine. The band has also appeared on local television: twice in Breakfast on Studio 23, in Wazzup Wazzup, and Pinoy Big Brother also on Studio 23. They also have been featured and interviewed on NU107's In The Raw, garnering nothing but positive reviews about the band, on Jam 88.3's Jam Sessions, in the Magic 89.9 show Bandwagon, and played an acoustic set on Mellow 94.7. The Haneps' single Chunami peaked at 3 at NU107's Stairway to Seven. Love Drive, another single, is on 88.3’s playlist.
The Haneps has successfully launched a 4-song EP titled Han-EP last December 9, 2006 in The Yardhouse bar and grill to a jam-packed audience. Currently, a full-length album is being recorded. The album is sighted to be released in 2008.
The Haneps are: Rocky Teodoro (vocals and guitar), formerly of the band Popgun; Allen Samson (bass and vocals), formerly of Spagnum Core; and Iñigo Mortel (drums), also of the band Mahasa.
